Iran warns of withdrawal from nuclear deal if sanctions re-imposed

Iran will withdraw from the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers if the US re-imposes sanctions on Tehran.

The statement was made by Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, on Saturday. He added that the most important objective of the deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was the lifting of sanctions.

Tensions between the US and Iran have escalated after US President Donald Trump opposed the deal between Iran and the P5+1 group, which includes the UK, France, the US, Russia, China, and Germany. Under the agreement, Iran agreed to halt its uranium enrichment in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions.

China urges US industry to rally against Trump’s tariff threat

Chinese state media on Sunday called on industrial and commercial sectors in the US to rally against US President Donald Trump’s plans for an additional 100 billion USD in tariffs against Chinese goods.

Trump threatened the extra tariffs after China imposed 3 billion USD of tariffs on US fruits, nuts, wine, and pork, just hours after the US unveiled an initial 50 billion USD in tariffs on Chinese goods. The US said it suffered a 375 billion USD trade deficit with China in 2017.

China warned on Friday it was fully prepared to respond with a fierce counter strike of fresh trade measures if Trump imposes the additional 100 billion USD in tariffs. China has launched a World Trade Organization complaint against the US, triggering a 60-day deadline for the two countries to settle the matter.
