Summit of Americas: Democratic governance against corruption

The 2018 Summit of Americas opened in Lima, Peru, on Friday to discuss democratic governance against corruption.

State leaders and high-ranking officials of 35 member states and foreign experts touched upon measures to fight corruption, one of the biggest barriers to investment resources and economic development, which have also led to recent political crisis in several regional countries.

In his opening address, Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra urged regional leaders to join forces in increasing transparency and boosting civil society. He described the summit as a forum to share experience and seek measures to reduce corruption in the government towards sustainable development.

Another topic is regional trade and economics when a trade war is likely to occur between the US and China, two major export markets of the Latin America.
