PM’s Singapore visit, attendance of ASEAN Summit is a success: Deputy FM

Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung has told the media that Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to Singapore and attendance of the 32nd ASEAN Summit is a success.

Mr. Dung said that following the visit, mutual trust between Vietnam and Singapore will be strengthened. Both sides agreed to forge closer ties in defense-security, particularly cyber security, building an ASEAN of solidarity, resilience, and innovation, and maintaining the group’s central role in regional structure. Both sides shared ASEAN common view on maintaining peace, stability, security, navigation and overflight safety in the East Sea, peacefully settling disputes, fully respecting diplomatic and legal processes without threat of force or use of force, on the basis of international laws, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. They also voiced their support for the full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and prompt completion of the Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, which should be effective and binding.

Deputy FM Dung said the highlight of the visit was to create a framework for close connectivity between the governments and businesses and between businesses of the two countries. The Business Forum, which was attended by 700 delegates, a record high figure, has shown special interest in the two economies’ connectivity. Both signed more than 20 documents and agreements worth a total of nearly 3 billion USD in essential areas like liquefied gas, agriculture, aviation, urban planning, and tourism-hotel complex.

South Korea, Russia support trilateral cooperation with North Korea

South Korean President Moon Jae-in praised Russia’s support for the Friday inter-Korean summit.

In a telephone talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday, Moon called on Putin to continue his support in Seoul’s diplomatic efforts with Pyongyang.

President Putin hailed the outcomes of the summit and underlined the importance of trilateral cooperation between South Korea, Russia, and North Korea to ensure peace on the Korean peninsula.

China’s top diplomat to visit North Korea

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit North Korea on Wednesday and Thursday at the invitation of North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kan said on Monday.

The visit followed the 3rd inter-Korean summit, in which the two signed the historic Panmunjom Joint Statement. Seoul and Pyongyang pledged to issue a declaration to end the war this year, confirm the goal of nuclear disarmament on the Korean peninsula, and promote trilateral negotiations including the two Koreans and the US, or a 4-party negotiation mechanism, including China. They said these efforts aim to advance to the signing of a peace agreement, to end the war on the Korean peninsula, and to build a solid and long-lasting peace.

UK, French, German leaders hold telephone talk on Iran nuclear

They agreed that maintaining the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement is the best way to prevent Iran from its nuclear ambition.

The same day, French President Emmanuel Macron and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani agreed to work on preserving the deal signed by the P5+1 group including the UK, France, Russia, China, the US, and Germany. Mr. Macron proposed that the discussions be broadened to cover 3 additional subjects: Tehran’s ballistic missile program, its nuclear activities after 2025, and the main regional crises in the Middle East.

Mr. Rouhani said the Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or any other subject under its pretext is not negotiable. President Macron is working to save the deal while US President Donald Trump threats to quit and calls for new sanctions against Iran.

Vietnam Airlines inspects flight landing on wrong runway

A Vietnam Airlines flight from HCM city to Nha Trang on Sunday landed on a runway which has not been put into use at Cam Ranh airport.

All 203 passengers and crew members on flight VN7344 were safe. The national flag carrier immediately suspended the pilots and dispatched a team to Cam Ranh to inspect the incident and check the Airbus A321 aircraft. The captain is an American pilot who has worked for Vietnam Airlines since January, 2018. The aircraft was delivered in August, 2015.

Vietnam’s Reunification Day celebrated in Chile, Russia

A ceremony to mark the 43rd anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam was held in Santiago, Chile, on Saturday.

Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Chile Nguyen Ngoc Son highlighted the significance of the victory in Spring 1975, which led Vietnam to a new era of independence and reunification. Mr. Son applauded achievements in the Vietnam-Chile comprehensive partnership. He said Vietnam has become Chile’s largest trade partner in ASEAN with bilateral trade reaching a record high of 1.28 billion USD last year. The Embassy is working with Chilean businesses to establish the Chile-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce. It will also implement projects to introduce Vietnam to the wider Chilean public.

On the same day, Vietnam’s Reunification Day ceremony was held by the Vietnamese War Veterans Association in Russia.
