Neuralstem’s NSI-566 stem cell therapy confers neurological improvement in spinal cord injury patients with complete paraplegia

– Neuralstem Announces Publication of Data From First-In-Human Study of Human Neural Stem Cell Transplantation for Chronic Spinal Cord Injury –

– First cohort of four subjects with thoracic (T2-T12) ASIA-A grade spinal cord injury in the Phase I study received intraspinal injections of human spinal cord-derived neural stem cells 12-24 months after injury
– All subjects tolerated the procedure well, with no serious adverse events 18-27 months after grafting
– Analysis of motor and sensory function and electrophysiology results showed improvement in three of the four patients

GERMANTOWN, Md., June 04, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Neuralstem, Inc. (Nasdaq:CUR), a biopharmaceutical company developing novel treatments for nervous system diseases, today announced the results from a study published in the journal Cell Stem Cell that support the potential of transplanted NSI-566, a human spinal cord-derived neural stem cell line (HSSC) to benefit patients with chronic spinal cord injury (SCI). The publication can be found here.

The manuscript entitled “A First-in-Human, Phase I Study of Neural Stem Cell Transplantation for Chronic Spinal Cord Injury” has as senior author Study Principal Investigator Joseph D. Ciacci, MD, Chief of Neurosurgery at the VA San Diego Healthcare System and Professor of Surgery at UC San Diego Health. The study’s primary objective was to evaluate the safety of NSI-566 transplantation in subjects with stable thoracic spinal cord injury, but additional endpoints were also measured including changes in neurologic deficits, neurophysiology, and neuropathic pain.

Subjects were evaluated for at least 18 months and up to 27 months after implantation of neural stem cells and showed no evidence of serious adverse events, suggesting the procedure is well-tolerated.  Analysis of motor and sensory function and electrophysiology results showed improvement in three of the four patients after NSI-566 transplantation,

“Stem cell therapies have tremendous potential in addressing spinal cord injury, a condition for which there are currently no treatment options that can restore lost function,” said Dr. Ciacci. “This study serves as a step in this direction, as it suggests the procedure is safe and has the potential for benefitting the patient.”

Neuralstem has initiated the second cohort trial to test safety in patients with cervical spinal cord injury patients.  “These data are encouraging and suggest that human spinal cord-derived neural stem cells may provide functional benefit to patients with spinal cord injury,” said Rich Daly, Neuralstem’s Chief Executive Officer. “We look forward to seeing the impact of this procedure on subjects with cervical injuries, who are the basis for the second cohort of the trial.”

About Spinal Cord Injury

A spinal cord injury, or SCI, generally refers to any injury to the spinal cord that is caused by trauma instead of disease although in some cases, it can be the result of diseases. It is estimated that there are 12,500 new cases of SCI per year and that at any given time, there are between 240,000 and 337,000 people in the United States that are living with SCI. Chronic spinal cord injury (cSCI) generally refers to the phase beginning 6 months after the initial injury. SCIs are most often traumatic, caused by lateral bending, dislocation, rotation, axial loading, and hyperflexion or hyperextension of the cord or cauda equina. Motor vehicle accidents are the most common cause of SCIs, while other causes include falls, work-related accidents, sports injuries, and penetrations such as stab or gunshot wounds. In certain instances, SCIs can also be of a non-traumatic origin, as in the case of cancer, infection, intervertebral disc disease, vertebral injury and spinal cord vascular disease.

Paysafe launches Paysafecash – the ground-breaking new payment solution for the ‘cash consumer’

Innovative solution from the global payments leader offers online shoppers an easy and ultra-safe online payment option

LONDON, June 04, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Leading global payments provider, Paysafe, today announces the global launch of its latest alternative payment solution – ‘Paysafecash’. The pioneering and ultra-safe online cash payment option has been designed to cater for the sizeable number of online shoppers around the world who still prefer to pay by cash. Recent data indicates that despite the enthusiastic uptake of electronic payments by many, numerous online shoppers are growing increasingly concerned that online shopping all too frequently results in financial fraud and data breaches.

Developed by the same Paysafe team who created the award-winning, pre-paid cash solution -paysafecard, a global leader in the online prepaid payments industry – the launch of Paysafecash forms part of Paysafe’s disruptive strategy of delivering an unrivalled suite of safe, frictionless and relevant payments products around the world.

Paysafe drew on both industry and proprietary research when developing the new cash product.  Contrary to popular belief that all online goods are purchased using credit or debit cards or other digital methods, market data indicates that around two billioni adults in the world are still unbanked. Even in highly developed regions such as the European Union, over 57 millionii adults do not have bank accounts and 68%iii of transactions are still paid for using cash. In the UK, for example, despite the extensive usage of contactless payments, the number who rely almost entirely on cash has jumped by 500,000 to 2.7 million over the past two years according to data by Payments UK and the Bank of England. Fraud concerns and data security are often cited as a major reason for not wanting to share bank account or credit/debit card details online.

Unlike other online cash solutions in the marketplace today, Paysafecash offers a number of unrivalled and unique benefits. It’s the first online cash solution that can be used to upload funds into digital wallets, including Paysafe’s own popular digital wallets, Skrill and NETELLER. This means that Paysafe can now offer consumers who want it, an entire payments ecosystem running on cash, totally negating the need to have a bank account or share financial data online.

Additionally, with Paysafecash, shoppers can pay in exact amounts for the purchases they are making, rather than being forced to round up the amount to a fixed voucher denomination which is typically the only ‘cash’ option offered to date by online retailers.

This is how easily payment works with Paysafecash:

1. Generate barcode
The customer selects “Paysafecash” in the online shop as the payment method, loads the generated QR/barcode to his wallet, sends it to his mobile phone or prints it out.

2. Find payment point
Using the search function, the customer finds the nearest Paysafecash payment point.

3. Scan & pay
The customer has the QR/barcode scanned by sales staff in a payment point and pays the amount due. The online shop processes the order directly after payment.

The product launch also ties into Paysafe’s new brand positioning of being the ‘new Big’ in the global payments industry as outlined in its recently re-vamped website and its ‘Plug into Paysafe’ global marketing campaign.  As part of the Plug into Paysafe campaign, the payments provider is publishing the next iteration of its latest international study ‘Lost in Transaction: Payment Trends 2018’ this week. The new study reveals that 63% of consumers said they feel more comfortable purchasing online via a payment option where their financial details are not shared.  A further study by CyberCorp showed that websites offering four or more payment options, in addition to credit cards, have a 12% higher conversion rate than online retailers only offering one alternative.

According to Udo Müller, Paysafe’s CEO behind the product, Paysafe is focused on offering these much-needed additional payment options for online shoppers. He believes Paysafecash has the potential to drive millions of additional shoppers online representing a true growth driver for digital shopping and online retailers.

Müller commented: “Every day in the news we read about fraud and data breaches, often impacting well-known and established online retailers, so nobody is immune to the risks of sharing their account or card data online.  On top of that, there are still significant tranches of our global population who remain unbanked and don’t possess payment cards of any description.  So we know there is a substantial need to provide a flexible and safe online cash solution to help both consumers and retailers overcome these hurdles.

Müller continued: “When developing Paysafecash, we wanted to create a pioneering cash solution that challenged other digital payment products out there and Paysafecash offers some truly unique features such as being the only cash solution that can be used to load funds into digital wallets.

This is another industry first for Paysafe and reinforces our track record of challenging the status quo to meet the unmet payment needs of both consumers and retailers.”

Paysafecash is already live and proving popular amongst shoppers in 14 countries including Austria, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Hungary, the UK and Canada.  Plans are underway to extend its availability in an additional 32 markets, including the US, by the end of the year.

Paysafe unveils exciting new global brand identity

New “Plug into Paysafe” brand positioning reinforces Paysafe as the platform of choice in global payments

LONDON, June 04, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Leading global payments provider, Paysafe, has unveiled an exciting and thought provoking new-look logo and brand identity coupled with a compelling new Plug into Paysafe global brand positioning.

As part of its increased marketing investment, which reinforces Paysafe as the ‘New Big’ in global payments, the payments provider has also overhauled its website to better showcase its unrivalled global payments portfolio to businesses.

The new logo and brand identity were simultaneously showcased at two recent high-profile, televised sports events. Firstly, in the U.S., as part of Paysafe’s sponsorship of the 2018 Verizon IndyCar series, the newly-branded number 19 Paysafe car took to the tracks at the hugely popular Indy500 race in front of millions of viewers. In the UK, the new Paysafe logo was also showcased on the shirts of the mighty Barbarians, one of the most celebrated teams in world rugby, at the England vs Barbarians match held at the Twickenham Stadium, London. The Paysafe-backed Barbarians won.

The Plug into Paysafe positioning, the core theme of Paysafe’s new, global marketing narrative, emphasises how businesses can ‘plug’ into Paysafe’s unique and diverse platform of proprietary payment capabilities covering every aspect of the payments ecosystem. Payment products include cash solutions, pre-paid cards, mobile order ahead, credit options, digital wallets and point of sale technology. Paysafe also offers, and continues to invest in growing, extensive payment processing and acquiring capabilities; only last month it announced its acquisition of iPayment Holdings, a leading payments processor in the U.S. This latest acquisition confirms Paysafe as a top 5 non-bank payment processor in the country and the payment partner of choice for the fast-growing SMB sector.

According to Paysafe Group Chief Marketing Officer, Oscar Nieboer, who is spearheading the new marketing approach, the updated brand identity and messaging aims to articulate how Paysafe offers flexibility and scalability so that businesses can create a highly customer-centric payments experience that meets their individual needs yet give them the reach of a global footprint.

Nieboer explains how this thinking was behind the new brand design: “Our new brand incorporates the colon to reflect that we provide a connection to an open-ended network of leading solutions and capabilities. The new identity represents the multiple elements of Paysafe’s network that can be organised in many ways to create highly relevant, tailored payment capabilities.”

The new brand positioning is being immediately brought to life with today’s global launch of Paysafe’s ground-breaking new online cash solution – Paysafecash – which enables consumers to use cash for online shopping instead of entering bank account or credit card details online. Significantly, it’s the first online cash solution that can be used to upload funds into digital wallets, including Paysafe’s own popular digital wallets, Skrill and NETELLER.

The new brand positioning will also see Paysafe’s payment by invoice and instalment solution, change its brand from Payolution to Paysafe: Pay Later. The company is set to expand the service, which is already well established in the DACH region, into new markets including the Canada, the U.K. and the U.S.

With over 20 years of online payment experience, a combined transactional volume of US $56 billion in 2017 and over 2,600 staff located in 12 global locations, Paysafe connects businesses and consumers across 200 payment types in over 40 currencies. The company combines the scale of an established global brand with the entrepreneurial and responsive spirit of a start-up.

Nieboer concluded: “As a company, we have grown rapidly through both acquisition and organic growth, and because of that we offer customers access to an unrivalled range of proprietary payment products and capabilities, along with developer tools, all in one place. Our new brand identity and the Plug into Paysafe positioning very much reinforce how we’re evolving and growing as a highly disruptive, customer-centric company. These are exciting times.”
