Vietnam, Uganda enhance bilateral relations

Vietnamese Ambassador to Tanzania Nguyen Kim Doanh on his 3-day visit to Uganda early this week paid a courtesy call to Uganda’s Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda.

Briefing his host on the socio-economic situation and major external policies of Vietnam, Ambassador Doanh expressed his hope that Vietnam-Uganda relations will expand. He urged the two sides to increase delegation exchanges, sharing of information on economic potential in each country, and opportunities for enterprises from both sides to meet and form partnerships. Vietnam and Uganda should consider signing a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in economics, trade, investment, financial-banking services, and tourism, he said.

Rugunda said that he believes Vietnam will be successful in its reforms, industrialization, and modernisation. He lauded Vietnam’s appointment of a Ugandan, Ceasar Augustus Mulenga, as its Honorary Consular in Uganda’s capital Kampala, describing the act as an important step in bilateral ties. He also voiced his hope that the Vietnamese Embassy will continue sponsoring activities to bolster the partnership between the two countries.
