Lithium Werks Acquires Industrial Business of A123 Systems

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands and AUSTIN, Texas, March 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Lithium Werks announces that it has acquired the original A123 Systems manufacturing plants located in Changzhou, China. These plants were the first to introduce the revolutionary NanoPhosphate® technology in the form of cylindrical cells that have been used globally in a wide array of applications, especially in the industrial market. As part of the transaction, Lithium Werks has taken over the customer relationships in China, Europe and the United States as well as the operations, staff and product designs associated with the Changzhou business.  Lithium Werks is also the new owner of the POWER. SAFETY. LIFE. trademark that characterized A123’s product portfolio in its early years. The transaction was financed through the working capital of Lithium Werks.

Calgon Carbon Announces Global Price Increase

Pittsburgh, PA, March 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Calgon Carbon Corporation is announcing a global price increase, effective immediately, where contracts permit, on all activated carbon products due to a continued escalation in the cost of raw materials. The increase is expected to range between 5-20%, depending on the specific product, raw material type, services provided, and global considerations.

The primary raw materials used for producing activated carbon are coal, coconut shell, and wood, each of which has gone up in price. Additionally, costs associated with operating manufacturing facilities and moving freight have also escalated.

Traditional ceremony for peace, good harvest held in Hue

Thua Thien � Hue province held a ceremony at the Xa Tac platform on Tuesday to pray for favorable weather, bumper crops, and peace and prosperity.

Under the Nguyen dynasty (1802-1945), the ceremony was held biannually in Spring and Autumn and was listed among the most important royal events, only after Nam Giao worshipping. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Hue Relic Preservation Center said: By restoring the ritual, we hope to help contemporary people understand their ancestors’ aspirations for living in harmony with nature and for wealth, bumper crops, and peace. The restoration of tangible cultural heritages of Hue needs to be in parallel with the recreation of accompanied intangible cultural values.

The Xa Tac ritual (worshipping two genies of the wet rice cultivation � Earth and Crop) includes incense offering, Genie procession, and royal oration reading.

Vinh Long urged to lead provinces in next decade

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has urged the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long to quadruple local people’s incomes to become one of the most dynamic localities in Vietnam within the next decade.

At an investment promotion conference in Vinh Long on Tuesday, Mr Phuc suggested that the province adopt a sustainable development model, which should be adaptable to climate change and focuses on eco-tourism and smart agriculture. He asked Vinh Long to create a strong link between farmers, state agencies, bankers, scientists, and distributers to secure sustainable growth. The conference attracted 800 domestic and foreign delegates.

NA Chairwoman urges stronger Vietnam-Netherlands cooperation

National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has suggested stronger cooperation between Vietnam and the Netherlands in seaport development during a reception for Director of the Port of Rotterdam International (PORint) Rene Van Der Plas in The Hague on Monday.

Madam Ngan asked the Port leaders to support Ho Chi Minh city and other Vietnamese localities in port infrastructure development; maritime training; logistics service; and flood prevention. She hailed the Dutch Government�funded International Business Program on cooperation between Vietnam and the Netherlands in sea, port and inland waterways.

During a reception for leaders of the Netherlands-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce (NVCC), NA Chairwoman Ngan said she hoped the NVCC will help Dutch enterprises explore and invest in Vietnam’s market. She said Vietnam is committed to creating a favorable, transparent and equal legal environment for foreign investors.

At a reception for Hermen Borst, Director of the Staff of the Delta Program Commissioner, Ngan said she hoped to learn from the Netherlands in sustainably developing the Mekong Delta.

Speculation on North Korean officials visiting China

Japanese media reported on Monday that a train possibly carrying high-level officials from North Korea has traveled through Dandong city, which borders with China.

In Beijing, a car with a North Korean embassy number plate was seen at the People’s Great Hall on Monday. Nippon TV screened a train to Beijing on Monday which looked similar to one that former Korean leader Kim Jong il used to visit China before he died.

In a related development, North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong ho plans to visit Russia in the middle of April and hold talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. The two sides are said to discuss the upcoming inter-Korean summit and US-North Korea talks.

Vietnam, Hungary supreme courts sign MoU

The Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam and the Supreme Court of Hungary signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral cooperation for 2018-2022 in Budapest on Monday.

The signing ceremony took place following talks between Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam Nguyen Hoa Binh and President of the Curia Peter Darak. Mr. Binh informed his host about Vietnam’s renewal process, legal system, and the apparatus of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam. Mr. Darak shared his experience in applying IT in court hearings, personnel training, and communications work.

The same day, Mr. Binh met with permanent Vice Chief Judge of the Court of Budapest Gyula Toth.
