SmartCash Announces Success of Community-Approved Initiatives Funded by SmartHive Project Treasury

Recent accomplishments by proactive community members demonstrate effectiveness of remarkable community-centric design

Bahamas Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Conference on Grand Bahama, June 2018

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama, May 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Bahamas Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Conference was officially announced by Minister of State for Grand Bahama in the Office of the Prime Minister, Senator the Hon. J. Kwasi Thompson, during a recent press conference.

The conference, scheduled to be held June 20 to 22 at the Grand Lucayan, was described by Minister Thompson as, “our coming out party” for Blockchain and FinTech. It is anticipated that representatives from 500 companies will converge on Grand Bahama, where investors and entrepreneurs will meet.

North Korea, US officials prepare for summit in Singapore

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and North Korean senior official Kim Yong Chol met on Thursday in New York to discuss preparations for the historic summit scheduled for June 12 in Singapore.

The White House Deputy Chief of Staff Joe Hagin met with the North Korean President’s Chief of Staff Kim Chang Son in Singapore to prepare logistics for the summit, the White House said.

Vietnam-German pilot project on nurse training reviewed

A pilot project to train Vietnamese nurses has proved effective, said a seminar to review the project recently held by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in Berlin.

Conducted by the German Development Cooperation Agency (GIZ), the project has trained 200 Vietnamese nurses since 2012. More than half of them completed the course and received working permits in Germany. The German training establishments involved in the training program praised the Vietnamese trainees’ diligence and expressed a wish to see more trainees from Vietnam.

Trade Counselor at the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany Nguyen Huu Trang highlighted the cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and Germany, in labor training and exchanges.

Israel approves construction of 2,000 new settlements in West Bank

Israel has approved the construction of 2,070 new settlements for Jewish people in the occupied West Bank, Peace Now reported on Wednesday.

Last week, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said he hopes to see 2,500 new settlements approved and that construction will begin this year. Lieberman said Israel will build more settlements from the North to the South of the West Bank, and he will ask Israel’s policy committee to approve the construction of more than 1,400 additional settlements.

The construction of settlements is a major obstacle to resuming Israel-Palestine negotiations, which have been frozen since 2014.

Vietnam, South Korea community art project wraps up phase 2

The Tam Ky municipal People’s Committee and South Korea’s International Exchange Fund organized a ceremony on Wednesday to close the 2nd phase of the Art for a Better Community project, which aims to boost Tam Ky’s tourism and create more jobs for local people.

The project has beautified Quang Nam province’s fishing villages, raised people’s awareness of enhancing their habitat, and promoted local tourism. It has also increased art exchanges and experience sharing in organizing and developing art activities between Vietnam and South Korea.

Telefilm expo 2018 to open in June

150 exhibitors will showcase their products at the 6th Vietnam International Exhibition on Film and Television Technology (Telefilm) in Ho Chi Minh City next Thursday.

The expo will feature 200 booths from 15 nations including Japan, South Korea, India, and Thailand. The 3-day event, organized by Vietnam Television and the ADPEX Joint Stock Company, will draw major Vietnamese communication agencies and firms including VTV, VOV, and SCTV. Several seminars will be held on the sidelines of the expo, focusing on current television trends amid rapid digitization in the TV industry.
