Businesses urged to help make breakthroughs in Vietnam – Laos economic ties

Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue met with representatives of Vietnamese businesses in Laos on May 15 in Vientiane as part of his official visit to Laos.

At the meeting, Duong Dinh Bang, Interim Chairman of the Vietnamese Business Association for Cooperation and Investment in Laos, said the Lao Government is amending legal regulations so as to improve the investment climate. Besides, many agreements between the two countries have also created an optimal legal corridor for Vietnamese firms’ investment in Laos.

However, he admitted that investment relations still fall short of expectations and have yet to match the political and diplomatic ties.

Representatives of the Vietnamese enterprises submitted several proposals to Lao and Vietnamese authorities so as to help facilitate bilateral investment and trade partnerships.

Appreciating the companies’ opinions, Lao Deputy Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone said Vietnam is currently the third biggest foreign investor in his country with total investment of 4.6 billion USD, and that Vietnamese firms’ projects have been greatly helping with local socio-economic development.

For his part, Chairman Hue said even businesses should be aware of their responsibility towards the special Vietnam – Laos ties.

Special relations need special mechanisms in order to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses’ operations in Laos, he noted, asking the enterprises to proactively improve their competitiveness.

He emphasised that in the time ahead, it is necessary to develop economic, trade, and investment links on par with the political and diplomatic relations between the two countries.

As the bilateral trade of 1.3 billion USD remains modest compared to the countries’ potential and advantages, the top legislator requested businesses and leaders of ministries and sectors to seek solutions to existing shortcomings in the current projects.

He voiced his hope that enterprises in Vietnam and Laos will work harder to make breakthroughs in economic, trade, and investment ties in terms of both quantity and quality so as to bring about practical benefits for the two countries as well as their business communities and people.

The same day, NA Chairman Hue and his entourage visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos and met with the Vietnamese community here. Chairman Hue appreciated the work of the Embassy and Vietnamese representative agencies in Laos as well as the contributions of the Vietnamese community and Vietnamese businesses in Laos to the relations between Vietnam and Laos.

He singled out the issue of preserving the Vietnamese culture in overseas Vietnamese communities, saying that it needs continued attention in Laos where there are as many as 100,000 Vietnamese.

He asked the embassy to hold activities to promote the Vietnamese language.

The NA Chairman took the occasion to inform the Vietnamese community on the socio-economic situation in Vietnam and decisions made at the recent fifth plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee.

Chairman of the General Association of Vietnamese in Laos Nguyen Duy Trung presented proposals of the Vietnamese community in Laos, including starting labour cooperation between the two countries, increasing annual scholarships for Vietnamese-Lao students to study in Vietnam, and facilitating access to medical check and treatment in Vietnam for Vietnamese in Laos.

Chairman Hue took note of the proposal and promised to ask relevant agencies to consider them./.

Plug Lands 1 GW Electrolyzer Order with H2 Energy Europe

Plug Secures World’s Largest Electrolyzer Order to Date

Green Hydrogen to Power Northern European Transportation Sector

LATHAM, N.Y., May 17, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Plug Power Inc. (NASDAQ: PLUG), a leading provider of turnkey hydrogen solutions for the global green hydrogen economy, has been awarded an order to deliver a one gigawatt (GW) electrolyzer to hydrogen company H2 Energy Europe. Planned for a green hydrogen production complex in Denmark, this is the largest capacity electrolyzer installation in the world to date.

Harnessing offshore wind power, Plug’s electrolyzer technology will enable the production of up to 100,000 metric tonnes per year of green hydrogen for use in the energy and transportation sector in northern Europe, supplying the fuel needed for the equivalent of approximately 15,000 heavy duty vehicles per day. Through its joint venture with Hyundai, H2 Energy will supply fleets of heavy-duty fuel cell trucks. In addition, earlier this year H2 Energy entered a joint venture with Phillips 66 to build more than 250 hydrogen refueling stations in Denmark, Germany and Austria supplied with green hydrogen from H2 Energy.

Pairing Plug’s leading electrolyzer technology with H2 Energy Europe’s engineering capabilities and strong partnerships, this project is a major step towards reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector for key countries in northern Europe while building energy security.

“We see green hydrogen as the future and have made significant investments in green hydrogen including in the construction of a gigafactory for electrolyzer production,” noted Andy Marsh, CEO of Plug. “Our operational readiness and manufacturing capacity were key determinants in our selection for the world’s largest order to date, and we are pleased to be a part of this project with H2 Energy.”

Plug’s electrolyzer products destined for H2 Energy’s Danish complex will be manufactured at Plug’s gigafactory in Rochester, N.Y., the world’s first and largest fuel cell and electrolyzer manufacturing gigafactory. Deployment of the technology at H2 Energy’s complex is expected in 2024, with production of green hydrogen in 2025. The hydrogen production complex, announced in September 2021 by the Danish government, will be located near Esbjerg and owned and operated by H2 Energy Europe.

“Plug Power’s unique knowledge and market position within the green hydrogen ecosystem made our choice of collaboration very easy. We have the same ambitions to reduce CO2 emissions and create a world where hydrogen is the future of energy,” said Rolf Huber, Founder and CEO, H2 Energy.

Swiss-headquartered H2 Energy Europe is a joint venture between commodity trading firm Trafigura Pte Ltd. and H2 Energy Holding AG. Through its affiliated companies, H2 Energy was the first to develop and deliver hydrogen fuel cell trucks to commercial users and create a green hydrogen fueling ecosystem in Switzerland.

Plug has been a leader in PEM (proton exchange membrane) electrolysis technology for nearly 50 years and was recently named the number one hydrogen electrolyzer company by Guidehouse Insights.

About Plug

Plug is building an end-to-end green hydrogen ecosystem, from production, storage and delivery to energy generation, to help its customers meet their business goals and decarbonize the economy. In creating the first commercially viable market for hydrogen fuel cell technology, the company has deployed more than 50,000 fuel cell systems and over 165 fueling stations, more than anyone else in the world, and is the largest buyer of liquid hydrogen. With plans to build and operate a green hydrogen highway across North America and Europe, Plug is building a state-of-the-art gigafactory to produce electrolyzers and fuel cells and multiple green hydrogen production plants that will yield 500 tons of liquid green hydrogen daily by 2025. Plug will deliver its green hydrogen solutions directly to its customers and through joint venture partners into multiple environments, including material handling, e-mobility, power generation, and industrial applications.

Plug has been a leader in PEM (proton exchange membrane) electrolysis technology for nearly 50 years and was recently named the number one hydrogen electrolyzer company by Guidehouse Insights. This order with H2 Energy Europe follows a series of other sizable electrolyzer orders across the globe for Plug, including a 250 MW unit through a joint venture with Fortescue Future Industries Pty Ltd. in Australia, a 100 MW unit for Fertiglobe in Egypt, and a 10 MW unit for MOL Group in Hungary. In the U.S., Plug Power is currently installing 565 MW of its own electrolyzer products across its green hydrogen production network. Plug’s independent green hydrogen production network expects to deliver 70 TPD by the end of 2022 and remains on track for 500 TPD in North America by 2025 and 1,000 TPD globally by 2028.

The company behind the world’s first and most comprehensive green hydrogen ecosystem, Plug is making green hydrogen adoption simple for companies ready to improve both the efficiency and sustainability of their operations. For more information, visit www.plugpower.com.

About H2 Energy

H2 Energy was established in Zurich, Switzerland, in 2014 with the vision to play an active role in fighting climate change. The company wants to make hydrogen from renewable energy a cornerstone of the energy system by expanding the entire value chain across production, distribution and consumption in a sustainable and economic way. H2 Energy is involved in the entire hydrogen value chain, offering know-how and engineering each step of the way. The company draws on many years of experience, particularly in creating hydrogen production plants, establishing hydrogen refueling stations and in the engineering of hydrogen fuel cell applications. In 2020, Trafigura and H2 Energy announced a commercial collaboration to develop the production, storage and distribution of green hydrogen for refueling stations and industrial customers. Under the joint venture H2 Energy Europe, the two companies will invest in green hydrogen ecosystems across Europe. Visit: www.h2energy.ch

Deborah Lipstadt’s Foreword to ‘Unstoppable’ is More Relevant Than Ever Due to a Substantial Rise in Global Antisemitism

Unstoppable

Unstoppable

NEW YORK, May 17, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — US Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, Deborah E. Lipstadt, explains in her Foreword to Joshua M. Greene’s Unstoppable: Siggi B. Wilzig’s Astonishing Journey from Auschwitz Survivor and Penniless Immigrant to Wall Street Legend why Siggi B. Wilzig’s life story is more relevant than ever.

—Begin Foreword

I have been teaching about the Holocaust for over forty years and frequently invite Holocaust survivors to speak to my students. Among them have been a Jew who grew up in Germany and witnessed the rise of the Third Reich, a Jew who ended up in a ghetto and described the terrible hardships of life in that hellhole, a survivor of death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau who described the world’s largest killing field, and someone who survived in hiding who explained the terrible psychological trauma of being separated from family and forced to adopt a new identity. No matter how intellectually stimulating and challenging my lectures are, presentations by survivors are what my students remember best. Many of my students have never met a survivor before, and it is always an awe-inspiring experience for them.

This book comes at a particularly critical time as, sadly, those who can speak most convincingly about the Holocaust are all but gone. That is why videotaped interviews, memoirs, and biographies of survivors, such as this one of Siggi B. Wilzig, are so important. All those who survived Auschwitz as Siggi did and who witnessed people being tortured, beaten, and murdered have an important history to relate to; yet this book does something that many other memoirs and biographies fail to do, and that adds to its significance. Namely, it includes the subject’s post-Holocaust experiences. What was it like for Siggi to rebuild his life? How did he manage? What was it like to raise children whose relatives had nearly all been murdered in concentration camps? Where did he find the confidence to achieve what he did? How did he learn to experience joy again? Was he able to still believe in God?

What happened to Siggi after liberation is an important part of the miracle of his survival. Not everyone who came out of that dark time had the wherewithal to start anew, having lost everything and everyone. Siggi rose from the ashes, never gave up, and always moved forward. To be sure, like many other survivors, Siggi suffered from emotional scars and foibles. He was, after all, human. Yet he also emerged with the intent of leaving his mark on this world, with a love of life, with the desire to make a difference, and he did all that in an extraordinary fashion.

Still, he carried with him an enduring concern that the antisemitism at the root of the Holocaust was back with a vengeance. He was enraged, as every decent person should be, at the offenses of Holocaust deniers. He worried that, due to their propaganda, people would forget the past and fall prey to the hatred that was its foundation stone. Sadly, today we see that Siggi’s fears were not unfounded.

This biography brings the reader into the totality of its subject’s extraordinary life and leaves us marveling at the remarkable accomplishments of this man.

RAJANT AND ACUBIS TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCE SUCCESSFUL FE1 PEREGRINE AND HAWK DEPLOYMENTS FOR STANWELL’S MEANDU MINE

100 BreadCrumbs deployed for CCTV, Access Control, Fleet Management and Autonomous Haulage

Malvern, Pennsylvania (USA), May 17, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Rajant Corporation, the pioneer of Kinetic Mesh® wireless networks, and Acubis Technologies, a Kinetic Mesh Premier Partner (KMPP) in Australia, have delivered the first FE1 series BreadCrumbs® – Rajant Peregrine and Hawk – to a government-owned utilities provider in southwest Queensland. The customer, Stanwell, was battling the ever-evolving data and application requirements of its operational technology (OT) network, which supports CCTV, access control, in-vehicle fleet management, and autonomous haulage and needed the additional throughput that Peregrine and Hawk provide.

“Stanwell owns Tarong power stations, one of Queensland’s largest electricity-generating sites, and the stations receive coal from the Stanwell-owned Meandu Mine via a conveyor. Dependency on sustained operations and critical infrastructure security are paramount,” shares Chris Acton, Acubis General Manager. “Industrial conditions are harsh and towering ridges surround the mine. Running multiple applications, video streams, real-time data transfer, and edge devices required Rajant for unfailing networking with high throughput and low latency. The Peregrine and Hawk are robust and secure. Moreover, these BreadCrumb radio nodes can grow with the capacity needs for future applications and deliver cost-saving efficiencies to Stanwell’s thermal power production.”

According to Stanwell’s Manager of Business Improvement and Technology Julio Romani, “The Meandu Technology Roadmap highlighted that a prerequisite for Meandu to accelerate and realize the value provided by technology advances was the establishment of suitable networks and communications platforms. The Rajant Peregrine & Hawk are an integral OT infrastructure component.  These BreadCrumb nodes maximize the use of the fleet management system, enable telemetry and high precision GPS technologies, and provide connectivity for CCTV, environmental, and control systems that operate across our Rajant wireless network.”
