Japan to enhance inspection of trade unions employing Vietnamese labourers

Japan will strengthen the inspection of labour unions to ensure rights of Vietnamese guest workers, Japanese Minister of Justice Hanashi Yasuhiro told Vietnamese Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung at their talks in Tokyo on September 6.

During the meeting, Minister Dung thanked the Japanese ministry for coordinating with the Vietnamese side to implement many effective programmes, including those in human resources development.

He suggested the Japanese side consider expanding occupations accepting foreign interns, and exempting and reducing some taxes for Vietnamese interns.

For his part, Minister Hanashi said Japan has resumed receiving foreign interns after a hiatus period due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Regarding the Vietnamese side’s proposal to expand occupations receiving interns, Hanashi said the Japanese government has a policy to gradually expand such professions, with caring service for the elderly being the latest, which is a top priority.

The Japanese Ministry of Justice will discuss with relevant ministries and sectors Vietnam’s proposal of exempting residence and income taxes for Vietnamese interns, he went on.

The same day, Minister Dung received representatives of a number of Japanese organisations and trade unions which are receiving Vietnamese interns, during which he asked for more attention from the Japanese organisations to supporting and caring for both material and spiritual life of Vietnamese interns.

The Vietnamese official also attended a seminar held the National Association for Global & Open Minded Communities (NAGOMi) on receiving more Vietnamese interns to work in Japan, towards building a global society of human resources for mutual development./.

President of State Audit Authority of Laos welcomed

Deputy Auditor General of Vietnam Ngo Van Tuan hosted a reception in Hanoi on September 6 for President of the State Audit Authority of Laos Viengthavisone Thephachanh, who is on Vietnam visit from September 6-10.

Tuan expressed his delight at achievements made by the Party, Government and State Audit Authority of Laos over the past years, which he said, have contributed to national socio-economic development.

He also informed the guest about recent activities of the State Audit Office of Vietnam (SAV), including perfecting legal framework for its operations and State audit standards, signing 20 international agreements with bilateral partners, mostly supreme audit institutions.

The host suggested both sides improve the efficiency of their regular activities like the exchange of delegations to help Laos amend the Law on State Audit and strengthen the capacity of public audit.

He asked for continuing cooperation activities 2022 and following years in order to realise the Vietnam – Laos cooperation strategy for 2021-2030 and Vietnam – Laos bilateral cooperation agreement for 2021-2025 in audit.

Viengthavisone Thephachanh, for his part, wished to receive the SAV’s further assistance in improving workforce quality via sharing experience, dealing with overlapping in inspection and audit, and in the E-office project to make the best use of information technology in its activities./.

PM receives Governor of Phnom Penh

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosted a reception in Hanoi on September 6 for Governor of Cambodia’s Phnom Penh Khuong Sreng.

Chinh hailed Khuong Sreng’s ongoing visit to Vietnam as an important event during Vietnam-Cambodia, Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Year 2022 on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years, two-way trade surged by 79.1% to 9.54 billion USD in 2021. Vietnam has run188 valid projects worth 2.8 billion USD in Cambodia, ranking first in ASEAN and among five biggest investors in Cambodia.

Vietnam always treasures and gives high priority to fostering fine neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability with Cambodia, he said, adding that the Vietnamese Government always offers all possible support to cooperation between the two countries’ localities.

The PM suggested boosting bilateral ties in the building and protection of borderline for peace, friendship, cooperation and development; border economy, education-training, cultural exchange and tourism.

He said Vietnam is ready to help Cambodia successfully organise the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summit and related meetings in November as well as the 32nd SEA Games in 2023.

He suggested authorities of Phnom Penh work closely with the Vietnamese side to deal with issues related to the two countries’ citizens in border areas, thus protecting their legitimate rights and interests. He also wished Phnom Penh would continue creating favourable conditions for Cho Ray – Phnom Penh Hospital project.

Khuong Sreng agreed with the PM’s proposals to cultivate bilateral ties.

Both sides promised to raise young generations’ awareness about bilateral ties and wished to further deepen traditional friendship and solidarity between the two nations./.

Investigation into human trafficking to Cambodia continues: Government officials

Government officials reported on the issue of Vietnamese being tricked into working illegally in Cambodia at the Government’s regular press briefing in Hanoi on September 6.

Assistant to the Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu said the Foreign Ministry and Vietnamese representative agencies in Cambodia have closely coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Defence, and localities, especially those along the border with Cambodia, as well as Cambodian authorities to verify information and implement citizen protection measures.

Specialised task forces and hotlines have been set up to be ready to receive requests for assistance, and to assist citizens, while relevant warnings have been posted on portals and social networks as well, he said.

There is no exact number of Vietnamese people being scammed into working in Cambodia, he said, adding that Vietnamese representative agencies have coordinated to rescue and repatriate about 600 Vietnamese citizens, as well as provided assistance related to legal procedures for many others.

In the coming time, Vietnam’s representative agencies in Cambodia will enhance coordination with ministries, sectors and localities to continue to protect Vietnamese citizens and workers, Vu stresssed.

Lt. Gen. To An Xo, Chief of the Office and Spokesman of the Ministry of Public Security, said the ministry has directed its Criminal Police Department, the Police Department for Administrative Management of Social Order, and Cybersecurity Department; and the police of localities, especially those bordering Cambodia, to coordinate with the Border Guard force to further investigate and verify human trafficking rings from Vietnam to Cambodia.

Initial investigation has produced good results, he noted./.
