He takes the reins from Trina Gordon, who retires after 12 years as CEO, 3 years as Chair, and 30+ years as a Managing Partner in the firm.

He continues, “I would like to pay tribute to Trina Gordon for her inspirational, values-driven leadership. As the first female CEO of a global executive search firm, Trina blazed the way for women leaders in our industry. While other professional services firms have taken a top-down corporate approach to strategy, Trina has remained committed to a governing structure of a true partnership, keeping the consultants who serve our clients at the center of our approach to the market. HqO Releases 2023 ‘The State of Workplace Experience’ Report

New research measures shifts in employee sentiment post-pandemic, emphasizing importance of social infrastructure in the workplace

BOSTON, Feb. 01, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — HqO, the world’s leading workplace experience platform, today announced the release of its annual The State of Workplace Experience report, a research-driven analysis of how the workplace and overall employee sentiment have evolved over the past year and what trends will emerge in 2023 as more workers are called back to the office.

Featuring proprietary data from research firms Gartner and Leesman, an HqO company, the 2023 report details a shift in how employees perceive and use the workplace, from an environment where the full scope of their work gets done – focused and individual activities, as well as group meetings – to a space that supports more spontaneous collaboration and interaction. Highlights include:

  • From before the start of the pandemic to 2021-22, the percentage of respondents who said informal social interaction was an important workplace activity grew by 20%. No other workplace activity had a greater increase.
  • The importance of both planned and informal meetings increased from pre-pandemic to today, 4% and 1.5% respectively. Yet, 40% of employees said they are not satisfied with the meeting rooms offered by their workplaces, and 45% are not satisfied with the room and desk booking systems.
  • Survey respondents place more importance on learning from others in the workplace, moving from 39% to 42.9% over the course of the pandemic.
  • Declining importance of certain activities also points to employees viewing the workplace as primarily a place for connection. The importance of telephone conversations, private conversations and business confidential discussions as workplace activities all decreased from the pre-pandemic period among survey respondents as remote workspaces likely provide better venues for these kinds of activities.
  • The importance of parking facilities was higher in 2021-22 than before the start of the pandemic, ranking third behind mobile computing equipment and access to IT help.

“This year’s report underscores the shifting role of the workplace as employees expect – and, in many cases, demand – an experience that justifies the commute, even if it’s just two or three days a week,” said Chase Garbarino, CEO and co-founder of HqO. “Interpersonal interaction has never been more important, making it critical for workplace decision-makers to invest in social infrastructure that brings people closer together. Those who embrace connectivity and community are best positioned to maximize productivity and profitability.”

The release of the report follows HqO’s 2022 acquisition of Leesman, the global leader in employee experience research. The Leesman data comes from roughly 300,000 responses to its global surveys of office workers. It is supplemented by Gartner’s insights, which originate both from the company’s qualitative analysis of the workplace experience marketplace and from its rigorous survey of roughly 200 industry researchers, commercial real estate CFOs and industry finance leaders.

RCEP, CPTPP to boost Malaysia’s external trade beyond 2023

Malaysia’s external trade activities are expected to expand steadily beyond 2023 amid the impact of new trade agreements, apart from elevated commodity prices and lower interest rates, according to a research released on February 2 by Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF).

The research house said the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) were also expected to lift the external trade performances in 2024.

As of 2022, RCEP members contributed 58.1% of Malaysia’s total trade while CPTPP members accounted for 27.5%, it noted.

Under those two free trade agreements (FTAs), Malaysian products are able to penetrate into wider markets while imported goods become cheaper. Hence, Malaysia’s exports and imports growth rates would touch 12.1% and 10.9% respectively in 2024, it added.

MIDF Research said the external front is still on a challenging path, with concerns of a global economic slowdown, inflation biting, tightening monetary policy in many countries and geopolitical risks in Europe and Asia.

It has foreseen slight moderation in exports growth forecast from 25% year-on-year in 2022 to 9.2% year-on-year in 2023./.

Indonesia expects to end import of petrochemical products from 2027

Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has expressed his hope that the largest economy of Southeast Asia will not import petrochemical products from 2027 thanks to petrochemical industry development in North Kalimantan’s green industrial area.

Speaking at the “2023 Mandiri Investment Forum” on February 1, he said that the country plans to build the largest petrochemical industry at the Tanah Kuning Kalimantan Industrial Park Indonesia (KIPI) in North Kalimantan province, which will be turned into the world’s biggest integrated industrial area.

The total investment potential of the industrial area has reached 132 billion USD. The figure includes the investment potential for developing hydropower plants and solar panels with a total capacity of 10,000 MW each as well as a gas facility with a total capacity of 2.9 trillion cubic feet (TCF).

In addition, bauxite smelters will be constructed massively at the KIPI in 2023–2024, following the decision of the Indonesian government to ban bauxite ore exports.

On December 21, 2022, President Widodo announced that Indonesia will stop exporting bauxite ore starting June 2023 to boost the domestic bauxite processing and refining industry./.

Lang Son posts 1.7 billion USD in goods trade via border gates

The value of trade via border gates with China in the northern province of Lang Son amounted to 1.7 billion USD in January.

Of the sum, the value of imports and exports with customs declarations reached 111 million USD, up 27% from last year.

Also in the month, nearly 170,000 tonnes of Vietnamese farm produce were exported through the border. Notably, between January 24 and now, some 1,500 trucks carrying some 20,000 tonnes of exports were cleared.

These numbers sent positive signals particularly as Lang Son’s border trade activities are on the rise since China reopened its border.

At the beginning of February, the province saw five border crossings operating. These incuded the Huu Nghi international border gate, Chi Ma bilateral border gate, Tan Thanh and Coc Nam auxiliary border gates, and Dong Dang international railway station border gate.

Currently, trade activities at these border sites are booming, with competent forces actively implementing measures needed to facilitate related customs clearance.

Lang Son has a borderline of 231.7km in 21 communes bordering China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region./.

PM chairs Government’s monthly law-building meeting

The Government considered proposals on the building of several laws at its monthly thematic meeting chaired by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi on February 2.

The proposals suggested amending and supplementing some articles of the law on the guard force, and revising the Employment Law and the draft Law on Water Resources.

The meeting also looked into proposals on the Government’s law and ordinance building programme in 2024, adjustments to the 2023 Law and Ordinance Building Programme, and the building of a national database centre, among others.

The participants shared their view on the need to issue such laws as well as their compatibility with other legal documents and international practice.

PM Chinh asked ministries that submitted the proposals to seriously consider opinions raised by Cabinet members, and complete the proposals, noting that feedback from experts, scientists, activists and affected individuals should continue to be collected during the building and perfection of laws and institutions.

The leader also emphasised the communication work before and during the law building, and after the issuance to create public consensus./.
