Da Nang Asian Film Festival to open on May 9

Award-winning Vietnamese films will compete against many other excellent Asian films in the first Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF) this May. The 1st DANAFF, held in the central coastal city of Da Nang from May 9-13, is organized by the People's Committee of Da Nang, the Vietnam Association of Film Promotion and Development (VFDA), the Da Nang’s Department of Culture and Sports in collaboration with other relevant departments.

Ha Vy, Deputy Director of the Da Nang municipal Department of Culture and Sports said: "The film festival attracts 44 films. We will organize 2 screenings for each film to have a total of 88 screenings. There will be training workshops for promising actors and actresses. So far, we have received registration of 36 participants from Vietnam, Japan and South Korea."

Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee, Ngo Thi Kim Yen, the 1st DANAFF selects and honors excellent cinematographic works rich in human values with new discoveries and unique artistic expression.

The event is planned to be held annually to encourage emerging talents in both Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region and widely introduce to the public new and high-value Vietnamese and Asian films, she added.
