IOC, North Korea discuss participation in Olympics

International Olympic Council (IOC) President Thomas Bach held talks with North Korean Olympic Committee member Chang Ung on Wednesday on the practicalities of sending athletes to next month’s Winter Olympics in South Korea.

The IOC is working closely with the International Ski Federation and the International Skateboarding Federation to see if North Korean athletes training overseas can take part in the Olympics. The North Korean Olympic Committee will send the IOC a definitive athlete list after consultation with the two Federations.

South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon said North Korea may send up to 500 athletes to the Winter Olympics.
