JCPOA joint commission to assess US nuclear deal exit

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Sunday that a meeting of the joint commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) will take place in Vienna on Friday to discuss the US exit from the multilateral nuclear agreement.

Under the nuclear deal signed in July 2015, Iran must limit its nuclear activities in exchange for the termination of economic and financial sanctions. Despite the Trump administration’s exit from the nuclear pact, the remaining countries say they will continue their commitment to the deal. Federica Mogherini, the European Union foreign policy chief, issued a statement last week saying that the 28-nation bloc is united in preserving the nuclear deal.
