Lao Embassy hosts traditional New Year celebration in Hanoi

PANO � The Lao Embassy in Hanoi celebrated the Lao Traditional New Year festival Bunpimay on April 11.

The event saw the participation of Tran Quoc Vuong, Politburo member and standing member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Secretariat; Tong Thi Phong, Politburo member and Standing Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, and Lieutenant General Le Hien Van, Deputy Chief of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army.

Speaking at the event, Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Thongsavanh Phomvihane thanked the Vietnamese Party and State leaders for attending the ceremony, and highlighted the achievements made by the Lao people over the past year. He stressed that those achievements were acquired by the Lao people, thanks to the effective cooperation and the valuable support of the Vietnamese Party, State and people.

This also demonstrates the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, which were nurtured by Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Kaysone Phomvihane and Souphanouvong, as well as generations of leaders of the two Parties, two States, and two peoples, he added.

In reply, NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong extended New Year greetings to the Party, the State and the people of Laos, and expressed her pleasure over the Lao important achievements in 2018.

She also affirmed that Vietnam will continue to cooperate closely and effectively with Laos to preserve and develop the great special solidarity and traditional friendship between the two nations, while continuously expanding the two countries’ comprehensive cooperation, thus meeting the aspirations and trust of both Vietnamese and Lao peoples and contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the region and the world.
