PM Phuc receives Mayor of RoK’s Daegu city

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the remarks at a reception for Daegu Mayor Kwon Young Jin in Ha Noi on October 12.

The RoK remains Viet Nam’s leading partner, ranking first in terms of investment, second in provision of official development assistance (ODA) and third in trade, which is a common achievement of the two governments and the two peoples, he said.

Expressing satisfaction at the enhanced cooperation between Daegu and Vietnamese localities, particularly Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, the PM voiced his belief that the Daegu delegation’s Viet Nam visit would contribute to boosting ties between Daegu and Vietnamese cities across the fields of economics, trade, investment and people-to-people exchange.

He asked the Daegu mayor to exert greater efforts to accelerate Viet Nam-RoK relations, including increasing two-way trade revenues, as well as to encourage Daegu’s companies to invest in the Southeast Asian country.

For his part, Kwon Young Jin noted that trade ties between Viet Nam and the RoK have been growing strongly, particularly since both sides signed a bilateral free trade agreement.

The majority of RoK companies are eyeing investment in Viet Nam, he said, asking the Vietnamese government to provide more support for RoK enterprises to do business in Viet Nam, as well as enable Daegu Bank to open a branch in HCM City.

The guest affirmed that Daegu would do its utmost to contribute to furthering Viet Nam-RoK relations and continue to deploy support programmes for Vietnamese people living in the city.
