Prime Minister calls for more investment from German businesses

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said Germany has been one of Vietnam’s most important partners in Europe and expressed his hope for the further growth of the two countries’ friendship and cooperation.

At a reception for visiting German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Hanoi on Monday, Mr. Phuc said the government of Vietnam supports the idea of setting up a joint chamber of commerce and industry. Vietnam wants German investors to increase its investment in Vietnam, particularly in hi-tech manufacturing, renewable energy, infrastructure, and logistics. The Prime Minister said the Vietnamese Government backs education cooperation – including the establishment of the Vietnam-Germany University, vocational training, cooperation between universities and research institutes, and German language teaching in Vietnam.

Mr. Steinmeier said Germany is encouraging more firms to invest in Vietnam and wishes to foster cooperation with Vietnam in culture. He said the German government will maintain its current official development assistance to Vietnam, especially in vocational training and environmental protection.
