SET moves forward to develop carbon credit trading center

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) is moving forward with the development of a carbon credit trading center to promote Thailand to become an ASEAN leader in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, in line with the government's policy statement to the parliament today (12 September) to promote a green economy, aiming for carbon neutrality and becoming an ASEAN leader in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, as well as promoting Thailand to become a center for carbon credit trading in ASEAN through the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) recognizes the importance of developing a green economic ecosystem in collaboration with public and private sector partners to continuously promote the country's transition to a low-carbon society, including preparing and promoting the business sector's potential to adapt and seek opportunities from the transition, as well as developing infrastructure, such as the development of the SET ESG Data Platform, to serve as a center for connecting ESG data fo r the business sector and investors. This is essential for the development of a sustainable finance ecosystem. In addition, the SET Carbon system has been developed, which is a tool for calculating carbon footprints for listed companies and business operators in the supply chain, as well as providing financial institutions with sufficient data to develop green finance products. In addition, a standard master trading agreement has been developed to facilitate the trading of carbon credits. One important mechanism for the business sector to adapt to the goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions is the establishment of an efficient and transparent carbon credit trading center. The Stock Exchange of Thailand is studying the development of regulatory mechanisms and trading systems, working with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Department of Climate Change and Environment, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) to design ap propriate models and push for amendments to various regulations that are obstacles so that this matter can be carried out smoothly, which will support the goal of creating sustainability along with driving the country's economy and society.
