Storm ‘Bebinca’ moves towards China, not Thailand

The Meteorological Department predicts that the powerful tropical storm ‘Bebinca’ will make landfall in China and will not affect Thailand, but we still need to watch out for continuous rain until September 22 because the monsoon trough is getting stronger, but it will move down to cover the northern, eastern, northeastern, and central regions, along with the strong southwest monsoon and blowing into the low-pressure cell covering the South China Sea. The upper northern region will see less rain, but the upper and lower areas must be careful of heavy to very heavy rain.

Mr. Somkuan Tonjan, Director of the Weather Forecast Division, said that from September 13-17, 2024, the monsoon trough will be stronger and will move down to cover the northern, eastern, northeastern, and central regions. In addition, the southwest monsoon will be stronger and will blow into the low-pressure cell covering the South China Sea, causing more rain in Thailand. The northern region tends to have less rain, especially in the upper
part. However, some areas in the northern, eastern, northeastern, central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, the eastern region, and the southern Andaman coast must be monitored.

Therefore, we must monitor the accumulated rain flowing through various river basins. In addition to heavy rain in Bangkok and its vicinity, there is also a high tide, which may cause flooding and water waiting to be drained.

Thailand will still have continuous rain during 18-22 September, but the monsoon trough has moved down to cover the lower central region, the eastern region, and the upper southern region. The monsoon is still strong, with heavy rain falling near the monsoon trough and on the monsoon side, especially the Andaman coast of the southern region, which must be monitored with special caution.

At this time, there is no sign of a storm forming that will move into Thailand. As for the severe tropical storm ‘BEBINCA’, which has its center in the western Pacific Ocean, it is still moving northwest. It is expec
ted to make landfall in China. Therefore, this storm will not affect Thailand.
