US leaves door open for possible meeting with North Koreans at Winter Olympics

US Vice President Mike Pence and other US officials could meet with North Korean officials at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang next week, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Monday.

Pence will attend the opening ceremony on Friday and other relevant events. Washington has previously said it won’t seek to initiate contact with North Koreans attending the South Korean games, but it does want talks with Kim Jong-un in an effort to get him to abandon his nuclear program.
