Vladimir Putin to seek re-election as Russian president in 2018

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Wednesday he will seek re-election next year.

Putin was first elected as Russian President for a 4-year term in 2000 and re-elected in 2004. From 2008 to 2012, he was Russia’s Prime Minister. He was re-elected as President in 2012 and will end his term in May next year. If he wins next year’s election, it will be his 4th presidential term.

The Russian Public Opinion Research Center showed that support for Putin has increased since 2012 and has always been above 80%.
