83rd Anniversary of the Department of Religious Affairs, moving forward to support and protect religion.

Bangkok: The Department of Religious Affairs celebrates its 83rd anniversary by organizing the Religious Patronage Day, moving forward to support and protect religion, creating good people with morality, winning the 3rd place award for a moral organization in the country.

The Department of Religious Affairs organized the ‘Religious Patronage Day’ to commemorate the 83rd anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Religious Affairs. Somdej Phra Maha Thirachan, a member of the Supreme Sangha Council and abbot of Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimonmangklararm, was the chairman of the monks’ sect, and Mrs. Yupha Thaweewattanakitbaworn, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, was the chairman of the laity’s sect. Executives from the Ministry of Culture, representatives of religious organizations, former executives, civil servants, and officials from the Department of Religious Affairs joined the event at the Religious Affairs Department Meeting Room, 2nd floor, Ministry of Culture. In addition, representat
ives from various sectors, including Mr. Suwit Sapmaha-udom, Assistant Managing Director of the Radio Office, MCOT Public Company Limited, also joined the event and donated funds to the Religious Affairs Department’s Welfare Fund, which will be donated to charitable organizations, foundations, and social activities.

Mr. Chaiyapol Suk-iem, Director-General of the Department of Religious Affairs, said that the ‘Department of Religious Affairs’ is an agency that has evolved for a long time. It was originally called the Department of Dharma, Department of Sangha, Department of Dharma and Sangha, and was changed to the Department of Religious Affairs on August 20, 1941. This year marks the 83rd anniversary and the 61st anniversary of the Religious Patronage Day, which was first held on February 26, 1964 to dedicate to the ancestors who supported and nurtured religion, most of whom were Buddhists. These ancestors were the ones who made Buddhism and other religions coexist sustainably and peacefully. Currently, the
Department of Religious Affairs is an agency under the Ministry of Culture. Its missions are related to the state’s operations in religion, by preserving, promoting and nurturing activities related to Buddhism and other religions, as well as promoting knowledge and morality, promoting good understanding and creating harmony among religious people of all religions, including working to enable Thai people to use religious principles to develop their quality of life to be good and virtuous people. This year, the Department of Religious Affairs also received an award for the assessment of morality and transparency in the operations of government agencies, at the excellent level. Ranked 3rd out of 160 agencies, reflecting the organization’s ethical conduct and adherence to the principles of good public administration in accordance with the principles of good governance.

For the mission of the Department of Religious Affairs, in the fiscal year 2025, which will enter its 84th year, the Department of Re
ligious Affairs will promote religious work in all dimensions through the implementation of the 7 S policies as follows: 1) Towards excellence in religious ceremonies and state ceremonies 2) Promoting morality and ethics 3) Strengthening religious relations 4) Supporting the community economy 5) Happiness and merit 6) Concentration, creating wisdom and 7) Convenient use of technology. This is considered an extension of the original work, expanding new work in terms of knowledge, management and the preparation of action plans that are consistent with the needs of the people and the country by using religious capital and principles to develop people to be good, capable and quality people. The most important thing in driving the policy to be successful is to receive cooperation from government agencies, the private sector, the public sector and religious organizations, including the strengthening of soft power in the religious dimension to generate income for the community. ed so that the youth and new generations of people use religious principles in their lives and use religious capital to create jobs, generate income, and have a good quality of life, live happily, resulting in society and the country having stability and sustainability.
