BMA reveals water levels will recede within 1-2 hours after heavy rain across Bangkok last night

Bangkok, The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration spokesperson revealed that the flooding situation from heavy rain last night will subside within 1-2 hours, with almost all areas dry before midnight.

Mr. Ekwaranyu Amrapal, spokesman for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, revealed the situation of rain and flooding in the Bangkok area yesterday (6 August). The radar detected a rain group moving into the Bangkok area at 8:30 p.m. in the Nong Khaem area. At the same time, there was a rain group forming in the inner areas of Bangkok. Later, the rain group both inside and outside the area expanded together to cover the Phra Nakhon area, including the upper Thonburi side. It appeared as a large rain group moving slowly eastward. The rain group continued and stopped falling at 3:00 a.m. on 7 August 2024. The highest amount of rain was measured at the Khlong Lat Phrao water gate in Wang Thonglang District at 91.5 mm.

For the flooding situation, there were 17 reports of water drainage acceleration points on m
ain roads from automatic measurement points and field officers of the Drainage and Sewerage Office, and 3 reports from social media, which showed that all points were dry as usual this morning. The point with the highest flooding was on Senanikhom 1 Road, Senanikhom Alley, Chatuchak District, where the water level was approximately 30-40 cm high. It started flooding at 9:10 p.m. and dried up at 12:30 a.m. For other reported points, the flood level was between 10-20 cm. and took an average of 1-2 hours to dry. In some areas, such as Soi Sukhumvit 42, Khlong Toei, and the Bearing area, Bang Na District, it took less than 30 minutes to return to normal.

Meanwhile, the flooding in Soi Ratchadaphisek 36, Soi 9 and 11-1, Chatuchak District, had dried up as usual at 7:40 a.m. The reason for the slow drainage was because the water level in Khlong Lat Phrao had risen. At approximately 3:30 a.m., Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, traveled to Lat Phrao District, including Soi Ratchadaphisek 36, Chatuchak Di
strict, to closely monitor the water situation.

‘Most of the flooded areas started flooding around 9pm-10pm. The water receded to normal by midnight. Drainage was good considering the 91.5mm rainfall, which is considered very heavy rain. However, almost all areas returned to normal before midnight,’ said the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration spokesperson.

In this regard, citizens can inquire, request assistance or report flooding problems at the Bangkok Flood Prevention System Control Center, Tel. 0 2248 5115 (24 hours), the Bangkok Complaint Center, Tel. 1555, or Traffy Fondue.
