Dong Thap develops large-scale duck breeding

The Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap is seeking to develop large-scale duck breeding from now to 2025. Currently, the province has nearly 7 million ducks for harvesting eggs and meat, which are reared in layer farms or free-range farms. It aims to breed a total of 8.8 million ducks in 2025, with an output of 9.5 million tonnes of meat and 390 million eggs. Dong Thap is also developing concentrated duck breeding areas in Thap Muoi, Tam Nong, Cao Lanh, Tan Hong, Thanh Binh districts and nearby localities. The province has chosen Tam Nong and Thap Muoi for developing duck egg production with the ‘co co’ duck variety. On average, duck farmers earn a profit that accounts for 23 to 30 percent of revenue from duck egg production.
