GSB kicks off 50,000 rai of forest planting in Loei Province

GSB' ??kicks off 50,000 rai of forest planting to offset carbon footprint, joins hands with the Royal Forest Department to pilot the planting of 1,600 rai of conservation forest on Khao Hua Lon, Loei Province. Mr. Vitai Ratanakorn, President of Government Savings Bank, revealed that according to the Bank's announcement of the Net Zero Emissions Roadmap by 2050 to participate in solving the climate change crisis and to prioritize solving environmental problems by setting the Net Zero target for all 3 Scopes, including setting measures to support and offset other greenhouse gas emissions, such as reforestation to replace degraded forest areas and forest conservation, totaling 50,000 rai within 10 years to increase carbon absorption sources under the project name 'Plant to Protect the World', the Bank has kicked off the reforestation of GSB, plot 1, covering an area of ??1,600 rai in the national forest reserve area of ??Dan Sai District and Phu Ruea District, Loei Province. The 'Planting for the World' proje ct is a measure to support the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, which is part of the Net Zero 2050 plan, as resolved by the Government Savings Bank's board of directors. The target is to reforest 30,000 rai of degraded forests and 20,000 rai of forest conservation. The total forest area of ??the Government Savings Bank over a 10-year period (2024-2033) is 50,000 rai, which is equivalent to the accumulated carbon sequestration of more than 35,000 tons of carbon dioxide (tCO2). The project is supported by the Royal Forest Department in allocating areas for reforestation to meet the target (excluding conservation forest areas). In addition, income from planting and maintaining forests can also be generated for villagers in the participating communities, and it is an instillation of environmental awareness and stimulation of concern for climate change issues in upstream communities.
