Phuket accelerates measures to prevent the import of “black chin tilapia”

PHUKET, Phuket Fisheries is urgently implementing measures to prevent the import of black-chinned tilapia after finding traders ordering them online to sell. Initially, it is expected that there will be a ban on bringing dead but still fresh black-chinned tilapia into the area.

From the case of the page “Monsoon Garbage” posting a message with a picture “Black-chinned tilapia brought into Phuket, be careful that the eggs will fall into the drain. I’m worried” after a vendor posted a black-chinned tilapia for sale in a Line group and social media for 50 baht per kilogram, ready to ship. They coordinated to buy and coordinated with Mr. Chalermpong Saengdee, Member of Parliament for District 2, Phuket Province, to go and receive 20 kilograms of black-chinned tilapia and coordinated with the Phuket Provincial Fisheries Office to destroy them because they were afraid that if they were left alone and the black-chinned tilapia that were sent had eggs or young in them, they would escape into the canals and out to th
e Andaman Sea, which would have a significant impact on the marine ecosystem and would be difficult to fix.

Mr. Prayut Rattanawan, Phuket Provincial Fisheries Officer, said that measures to prevent black-chinned tilapia from areas where outbreaks occur to areas with purity or areas where outbreaks have not been reported focus on public relations to create awareness to prevent small fish or black-chinned tilapia with eggs stuck in their mouths, as they are likely to escape into natural water sources. At the same time, preventive measures are being implemented in terms of the law.

Initially, measures will be taken to prevent the import of fresh but dead tilapia into Phuket. If they are to be imported for consumption, they must be processed, such as salted fish, sun-dried fish, or fermented fish. This will ensure that there will be no contamination in the environment.

However, after the first black-chinned tilapia was found, it was discovered that it was due to the ignorance of the traders in Phuket Province.
It was fortunate that someone found it and destroyed it beforehand.
