“Pirapan” discusses with “Ekanat” to push for reform of Thai industry

“Pirapan” discussed with “Ekanat” to coordinate cooperation to promote clean energy industry, push “SME estate” to help small entrepreneurs, eliminate obstacles and regulations, increase convenience for entrepreneurs, confident that “industrial reform” will be successful.

Mr. Ekkanat Promphan, Minister of Industry, revealed after a discussion with Mr. Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy yesterday (16 September) that the Deputy Prime Minister congratulated him on the occasion of assuming the position of Minister of Industry and discussed the operations of the Ministry of Industry on how to provide faster services to the public, reduce procedures, and create convenience and agility for the public. The industrial sector is a key force in developing the country’s economy, especially SME entrepreneurs, which are the grassroots economy that we must promote, create opportunities, provide convenience, and provide capital to support SME entrepreneurs in order to elevate their busin
esses to grow, create jobs, and generate income so that they can continue and compete steadily, which is an important part in creating overall economic stability and security.

Mr. Ekkanat also revealed that there is an idea to establish an industrial estate for small businesses (SME estate) to help reduce costs and be able to deliver raw materials or products to entrepreneurs in the industrial estate, making it more convenient to support SMEs, including accelerating the amendment of regulations and laws to be consistent with current operations, which is an important matter in reforming Thai industries.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry has emphasized the promotion of the use of renewable energy or green energy by amending the law on the production of electricity from rooftop solar power (Solar Rooftop) to not be included in the category of factories that must apply for a factory operating license. Previously, it was specified that if the production capacity exceeds 1 megawatt, it is considered a factory
that must apply for a license. The amendment of this law is in line with the government’s policy to push all sectors to use electricity from renewable energy to upgrade Thai energy to be stable, sustainable, clean and cheap, in line with international regulations. It is expected that the unlocking of this law will be effective within 2024.

The Ministry of Industry will amend the law to be up-to-date, meet the needs of business and benefit the development of Thai industry by adjusting the management of industrial waste throughout the system. The law will be amended to promote sustainability, increase criminal penalties, and set guidelines for adjusting the law and missions into the digital government sector, creating Ease of Doing Business, especially by amending the law to fix loopholes in promoting good business, having a One Stop Service Digital System to facilitate and reduce steps for business operators, and establishing an industrial reform fund to promote the transformation of the industry towards the
future, creating sustainability and rehabilitating and remedying impacts that may occur from business operations, so that they can be done quickly. This is considered an additional tool for working to drive development for industrial reform.
