Rushing to help passengers at Chiang Rai Airport after flooding

'Suriya' ordered 'Keerati', the AOT's CEO, to urgently go to Chiang Rai Airport to help passengers leave the area after the airport entrance and exit were flooded. Food and drinking water were prepared and fully available. The water has not yet flooded the runway or passenger terminal. The plan will be used as a command center to solve the problem and a water management plan will be prepared. Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, revealed that the flooding and flash flood situation in Chiang Rai Province has resulted in many roads being impassable. This morning (12 September), Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) reported that there is currently flooding at the entrance of Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai Airport (Chiang Rai Airport), causing airline staff and the public to be unable to enter or exit the airport. In addition, there are passengers waiting to travel stuck inside the airport. In this regard, Mr. Keerati Kitmanawat, AOT President, has been ordered to urgently visit Chiang Rai Airport to facilitate passenger service, inspect and resolve the situation, and arrange personnel to help passengers inside the airport leave the area. Snacks and drinking water are also prepared to serve them fully. However, AOT recently reported that the water has not flooded the runway and the passenger terminal. All airlines can still take off and land as usual. Mr. Suriya said that initially, Chiang Rai Airport will be used as the command center, and all relevant agencies will be assigned to facilitate the safety of the public. He also ordered preparations to cope with and manage water within the airport by dredging the open drainage system, which is a drainage canal surrounding the airport area, and preparing a water pump on the north side to manage water within the airport to be ready for use at all times. AOT is in the process of expediting the resolution of the problem as soon as possible and recommends that people refrain from traveling to Chiang Rai Airport until the s ituation improves.
