Thai rescuers ordered to withdraw after Chinese experts reach tunnel collapse point

The Pak Chong District Chief of Nakhon Ratchasima Province ordered the withdrawal of the Thai rescue team to wait outside for a request after a six-man Chinese team specializing in tunnel rescue arrived at the landslide that buried three workers.

This morning, Thai and Chinese officials involved in the rescue operation to urgently help 3 workers buried in a landslide inside the high-speed rail tunnel at Khlong Khanan Chit Station, Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, brought a level measuring device to inspect the mountain above the high-speed rail tunnel at Khlong Khanan Chit Station to ensure that the excavation is accurate and does not affect the tunnel structure. The main purpose of excavating at this point is to reduce the weight of the soil below that affects the other side of the tunnel, which is a 50-meter landslide joint. In the tense situation, all methods are being used to urgently help the victims.

The Pak Chong District Chief in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, as the incident commander,
led the village headman of Tha Hip and the village security team to bring 16 incense sticks to pay respect to the spirits of the forest and mountains to help clear the way for the rescue to proceed more conveniently. He then revealed the latest overall situation, that at 11:00 p.m. (August 26), a 40 mm. steel pipe, 6 meters long, was stuck on metal, believed to be a truck. However, reaching the person was still difficult because the ground was sliding throughout the operation.

At 4am, six Chinese rescuers who are experts in tunnel rescue arrived. In addition, the area that had advanced closer to the center of the landslide was becoming increasingly risky. This morning, the Thai rescue team was ordered to withdraw to the outside to provide support, waiting for the Chinese rescue team’s request.

Pak Chong District Chief analyzed that with experience working in the tunnel, it is expected that the victims will have survival skills and sufficient preparation, which may include drinking water and some supplies st
uck in the car. While the people outside the car, according to the training to deal with the situation, they must run to the car to survive.
