The thief who stole 68 baht worth of gold from a famous shopping mall in Ranong has been arrested.

Two male and female robbers have been arrested for robbing 68 baht worth of gold in a famous shopping mall in downtown Ranong. The men confessed that their lives were at a low point and they had no income, so they invited their 16-year-old niece to join them in committing the crime.

From the case of 2 robbers who robbed a gold shop in a famous shopping mall in the middle of Ranong city on the morning of September 11 and stole a gold necklace worth no less than 68 baht.

The latest this morning, Pol. Col. Chetpong Chiwpreecha, Commander of Ranong Provincial Police, revealed that from the plan to follow the trail and have officers investigate and gather information from all parties until they found traces and hiding places, so they ordered officers to lie in wait all night until this morning, officers raided and arrested Mr. Wirawut, aged 41, at his house in Village No. 4, Tambon Ratchakrut, Mueang District, Ranong, which was a palm plantation. Mr. Wirawut confessed and led officers to dig up the gold necklac
e that was put in a plastic jar and buried in the back of the house, and another part that was hidden in his mother’s cloth bag.

During questioning, Mr. Wiravut confessed that since the COVID-19 outbreak, his life has been very depressed. He does not have enough income to support his family. His wife left him and he became a single father. He used to be a construction contractor and earned tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of baht per month. However, he currently has almost no income. Therefore, he thought about how he could pull himself up. So, he called Ms. Rung, his niece, 16 years old, from Kaper Subdistrict, Kaper District, Ranong Province, to join the incident. At the time of the invitation, Ms. Rung was in Surat Thani Province. He asked Ms. Rung to buy a plastic gun for him.

Mr. Wirawut added that he and Ms. Rung had traveled to the mall and observed the gold shop since Tuesday, September 10, and intended to do it that day. However, Ms. Rung had interrupted him, saying that there were too ma
ny people, so he gave up and decided to do it the next day, Wednesday, September 11. He rode a motorcycle that he had bought from a secondhand shop in Surat Thani Province for 1,500 baht and brought it to be repaired. On the way, he stopped to fix a tire at Ban Tung Ngao, Tambon Ngao, Amphoe Mueang Ranong, before putting on a long-sleeved shirt and pants over the old one and heading to the mall.

Mr. Wiravut continued that he did it without feeling excited or afraid at all because he thought that he had nothing to lose in this life. If he succeeded, he would be able to pull himself back to life, but if he failed, he would end up in jail. Another thing was that the gold shop in the mall did not have iron bars and no owner, so he was not afraid because he already knew that the employees did not have guns.

Mr. Wirawut added that after he and Ms. Rung robbed the gold, they ran back to the motorcycle parking lot of the mall and rode back into the entrance on Phetkasem Road, against traffic on the footpath towards
Ban Bang Klang. Along the way, they fell off their motorcycle once, causing injuries to their knees and shoulders. At that time, they were certain that they had dropped their gold necklaces along the way, but they didn’t know how many.

After that, he and Ms. Rung rode a motorcycle to Ban Tung Yo before reaching Phu Khao Ya. The tire went flat again, so he decided to drive on the flat tire and turned into Phu Khao Ya Alley. He left the motorcycle in the ditch on the side of the road and walked into the forest about 30 meters from the road. He took off his shirt, pants, and gloves and threw them away. He took out the gold and counted it, which was about 50 baht. After that, he walked through the forest to the side of Phetkasem Road, took a songthaew back to his house in Tambon Ratchakrut, and then divided 5-6 gold necklaces weighing 1 baht each for Ms. Rung to sell. Ms. Rung traveled to Mahachai, Mueang District, Samut Sakhon.

After receiving the information, the police coordinated the information and checked
Ms. Rung’s mobile phone and had the local police officers successfully arrest Ms. Rung and will bring her to reenact the crime scene and prosecute her in Ranong Province.
