Warning about filler from quack doctors, risk of retinal tear

Department of Medical Services, by Metta Hospital (Wat Rai Khing), warns that injecting fake fillers or using the services of quack doctors (quack doctors) can lead to a risk of retinal tear from the injection because they do not have the knowledge and expertise in the correct injection needle skills.

Dr. Pairoj Suratwanich, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Medical Services, revealed that filler injections are a popular cosmetic procedure today because they can quickly adjust the shape of the face and provide satisfactory results. Fillers are often injected into various areas of the face, such as the cheeks, under the eyes, or lips. Therefore, everyone who loves beauty should be aware of the risks that can occur at any time.

Dr. Arkom Chaiwirawattana, Director of Metta Pracharak Hospital (Wat Rai Khing), said that using a filler injection needle without any knowledge of anatomy, especially facial anatomy, as seen in the news shared about the dangers after filler injections, if you read the cont
ent, you will find that the person injecting is usually not a doctor, but a quack doctor, or in another case, a real doctor but lacks experience, which may inject the wrong spot and cause a blood vessel blockage.

Dr. Thikamporn Chanphu, an ophthalmologist specializing in the retina and vitreous humor, added that fillers are often injected into various areas of the face, such as the cheekbones, under the eyes, or lips. The areas at highest risk are around the eyes and nose, as these areas have blood vessels that are closely connected to the blood vessels in the eyes. If the filler is accidentally injected into the blood vessels, it can cause retinal blood vessel occlusion. Another serious and uncommon side effect is the filler injection that causes a retinal tear, a condition that can lead to permanent vision loss if not treated promptly. Retinal tears are the result of the filler injection needle being inserted too deep into the eye by an injector who is not skilled enough to control the depth of the needle
and lacks understanding of the structure of the eye and face. However, there is no clear data or specific studies that directly indicate the incidence rate of this condition, as most related reports are case studies with a small number of patients, making it difficult to assess the exact incidence rate. Symptoms to watch out for after filler injection include seeing flashes of light in the eyes, seeing floating dots or fibers in the eyes, and abnormal vision. Distorted vision or partial loss of vision If you have these symptoms, you should see an ophthalmologist immediately, which may be a sign of a retinal tear or detachment. To prevent serious side effects from filler injections, it is recommended that those interested in filler injections choose to have an injection with an experienced and skilled doctor. Avoid injecting filler in the eyes and nose, which are high-risk areas. Check your symptoms after the filler injection. If you find any abnormalities, you should see an ophthalmologist immediately for imm
ediate examination and treatment.
