Ho Chi Minh City leaders commemorate President Ho Chi Minh on National Day

On the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the National Day (September 2) and the August Revolution Day (August 19), a delegation of the Party Committee, the People’s Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City led by Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Committee, offered incense and flowers to President Ho Chi Minh and President Ton Duc Thang.

The delegation observed a minute of silence in memory of the late leaders, and recalled their contributions to the nation, the revolution and the Party.

It pledged to further strive to turn the country’s biggest city into a developed, sustainable and smart metropolis.

NA Chairman to travel to Europe for fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament

Politburo member and Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue will attend the fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament (WCSP5) in Austria, and pay working visits to the European Parliament and Belgium, and an official visit to Finland from September 5-11.

The visits will be made at the invitation of the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pacheco, President of the Austrian National Council Wolfgang Sobotka, President of the European Parliament David Sassoli and Speaker of the Finnish Parliament Anu Vehvilainen, according to the communiqué of the NA Committee for External Relations.

Vietnam’s flag raised in San Francisco on National Day

Vietnam’s General Consulate in San Francisco, the US, and the municipal authorities held a ceremony to hoist the Vietnamese flag on September 1 morning to mark the country’s 76th National Day.

Consul General Nguyen Trac Toan spoke highly of the contributions by the local authorities to promoting relations between the two countries, especially the determination to establish the sisterly relationship with Ho Chi Minh City right before the two nations normalised their diplomatic relations.

He thanked the US Government and the US Department of State for donating 6 million vaccine doses to Vietnam.

Toan also expressed gratitude to the San Franciso-Ho Chi Minh City Sister City Committee for its efforts to push up donation and relief programmes to help the Government and people of Vietnam in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The diplomat said he hopes that the US Government and people will continue standing side by side and supporting the Vietnamese people to overcome difficulties and challenges caused by the pandemic under the motto “a friend in need is a friend indeed “, thereby supporting overseas Vietnamese in California to stabilise their lives.

Mark Chandler, Director of the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of International Trade and Commerce, thanked the Government and people of Vietnam for presenting 10,000 masks to the city from the first days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On behalf of the city authorities, Chandler handed over to Toan San Francisco Mayor London Breed’s statement declaring that September 2, 2021, is designated as the US-Vietnam heritage and friendship day in San Francisco.

Vietnam resolutely protects sovereignty over Hoang Sa, Truong Sa archipelagoes

Vietnam resolutely and persistently takes measures in accordance with international law to exercise and protect its sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes.

Spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang made the statement on September 1 while responding to reporters’ question about Vietnam’s reaction to China’s official enforcement of the revised Maritime Traffic Safety Law.

“Vietnam resolutely and persistently safeguards its sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction over its waters determined in line with the provisions of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982)”, she affirmed.

She noted that countries need to strictly comply with the international treaties to which they are members, especially the UNCLOS 1982 – a legal framework governing all activities at sea and ocean, when promulgating their domestic sea-related laws.

Lao officials congratulate Vietnam’s achievements

Deputy head of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Somphone Sichaleun and Deputy Foreign Minister Phoxay Khaykhamphithoune visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos on September 1 to offer congratulations on the 76th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2).

The Lao officials affirmed that over the past more than seven decades, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnamese people have reaped great, comprehensive and significant achievements in various areas, especially during the national renewal cause.

According to them, Vietnam has still maintained political stability and high economic growth, with solid national defence and expanding external relations. The role and position of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the country has been increasingly improved on regional and international arena.

Expressing sympathy with Vietnam over difficulties in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, they expressed their belief that the Vietnamese Party, State and people will soon put it under control.

On the occasion, they thanked the Vietnamese Party, State and people for providing support for the Lao counterparts in the past as well as national development at present, especially during the fight against COVID-19 in the country.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung attributed Vietnam’s achievements over the past 76 years to the Vietnam – Laos fighting alliance and utmost support of the fraternal Lao people.

According to him, the two countries still held high-level visits and offer timely assistance in COVID-19 combat this year.

He also thanked the Lao side for helping the Vietnamese embassy fulfil its assigned task, and wished that the two sides would work closely together to hold important celebrations, especially during Year of Laos – Vietnam Friendship and Solidarity.

PM: medical scientists play key role in COVID-19 fight

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has hailed the medical sector, including medicine scientists, for bringing their brainpower to fight the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years.

During a working session with 70 scientists, professors, doctors and leaders of the sector, hospitals, medical universities in Hanoi on September 1, PM Chinh said science-technology used in the sector has dealt with urgent issues, with scientists and experts playing a key role in innovation and creativity.

Amid the shortage of COVID-19 vaccines and medicines, he asked them to fully tap linkage with the network of scientists and science organisations worldwide to seek supplies, as well as offer instructions on COVID-19 examination and treatment on the mass media.

He expressed his belief that medical scientists will continue the tradition of predecessors to contribute to the community health, with their brainpower, mettle and aspirations.

Participants at the event said they are determined to dedicate to the country’s health care cause, especially amid the pandemic at present.

They affirmed that the Government’s COVID-19 prevention and control policy is right. To make it more effective, they suggested the Government continue directing the fight in the “5K vaccine medicine technology” strategy, stepping up research and production of COVID-19 vaccines and medicines at home, especially vaccines for children.
