Binh Thuan works hard on combating IUU fishing

Binh Thuan: A conference was held April 9 to review the implementation of Directive No.30- CT/TU of the Party Committee of the south-central coastal province of Binh Thuan on urgent tasks to enhance the management of fishing vessels and fishermen and end fishing in foreign waters. Delegates candidly assessed the results as well as mentioned challenges encountered in implement the tasks. They said efforts to raise awareness among fishermen have not yielded the desired results, and violations of legal regulations regarding the exploitation and protection of aquatic resources are still occurring. Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Nguyen Hoai Anh underlined the need to make combating illegal fishing as an urgent and regular task of the local political system. He requested relevant sectors, and authorities of coastal localities to concentrate on measures to prevent local fishing ships and fishermen from fishing in foreign waters, and investigating and handling organizations and individuals involved in brokering or facilitating fishing vessels and fishermen to engage in illegal fishing in foreign waters. Relevant forces must concentrate all resources and urgently address limitations identified by the inspection team of the European Commission (EC) during their fourth inspection, he said, stressing the necessity to well prepare for the team's upcoming 5th inspection. He asked the Vietnam Fatherland Front's local chapter and all-level political-social organiations to improve the effectiveness of communication activities to raise fishermen's awareness of compliance with relevant law. With over 7,800 fishing vessels and 44,500 labourers engaged directly in fishing activities, Binh Thuan is one of the leading localities nationwide in terms of fishing capacity and seafood output. According to Nguyen Van Chien, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, thanks to the serious implementation of urgent measures along with the efforts of the entire political system, the loca lity witnessed positive results in preventing IUU fishing. Notably, since January 2023, no fishing vessels violating relevant regulations have been detected. First southern pediatric organ transplant centre to become operational in 2025

HCM City: The first pediatric organ transplant centre in Vietnam's southern region is scheduled to be completed and put into operation on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - 2025). It will be located at Children's Hospital 2 in Ho Chi Minh City, one of the first children's hospitals in Vietnam to have conducted kidney and liver transplants for pediatric patients, Associate Professor, Dr. Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the municipal Department of Health, said on April 9. According to the official, the medical establishment has successfully performed 33 liver, 30 kidney and 10 autologous stem cell transplants so far, with the first case of kidney in 2004 and liver, one year later. The Ministry of Health has recently issued a decision recognising the hospital as qualified to remove and transplant kidneys and livers from living and from brain-dead donors, he noted. Together with the centre, HCM City will have thee specialised healt hcare facilities for children, including the cardiovascular centre at the Children's Hospital 1 and the cancer centre at the City Children's Hospital./. Binh Duong, UK cooperate in promoting green energy

Binh Duong: The People's Committee of the southern province of Binh Duong, in collaboration with the British Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, organised a conference on green energy on April 9, aiming to optimise the use of renewable energy and facilitate knowledge exchange between the locality and experts on sustainable energy development. On this occasion, the Eastern International University, Becamex IDC, the UK's Q-Energy and the British Chamber of Commerce Vietnam, announced a cooperation project on energy solutions. Entitled Vietnam Intelligent Energy Trading Platform for Upscaling Local Energy Storage and EV (VIET PULSE), the project is intended to solve basic problems in using renewable energy in Vietnam such as instability in energy supply to customers. Under the project, necessary infrastructure for solar battery systems, electric vehicle charging stations and energy storage battery systems will be installed, along with expanding research and implementation of energy management systems to op timise electricity consumption and install renewable energy systems as well as applying Big Data and AI technologies to coordinate resources used in the same basic infrastructure complex and build an energy sharing model between units. Addressing the event, British Consul General in HCM City Emily Hamblin said that the UK Government highly evaluated its partnership with Vietnam to prioritise supporting green transition. She said that staff at the Consulate General in HCM City and the UK Embassy in Hanoi are working closely with the Government of Vietnam and relevant parties to increase support for the country in implementing its net-zero emission commitment. Vice Chairman of the Binh Duong provincial People's Committee Mai Hung Dung said the province highly appreciated the cooperation programme between Q-Energy of the UK and the Eastern International University on the project that promotes joint efforts to minimise negative impacts on the environment and create a more sustainable future. It reflects the s trong commitment of the provincial People's Committee and partners in promoting sustainable development and green energy transition, he said, adding that this cooperation not only creates opportunities for the application of advanced technology but also marks an important step in building a business environment towards sustainability and high efficiency./.
