Kyiv art exhibition marks 30th anniversary of Vietnam-Ukraine diplomatic ties

About 120 paintings by 90 Ukrainian painters depicting the beauty of Vietnam’s nature and people are now on display at an art exhibition in Kyiv to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Vietnam-Ukraine diplomatic ties (January 23, 1992 – 2022).

Launched on February 10 (local time), the exhibition is organised by the Embassy of Vietnam to Ukraine in collaboration with the association of Ukrainian painters.

In his opening remarks, president of the association of Ukrainian painters Kostiantyn V. Cherniavskyy said the exhibition offers a chance for the public to explore the beauty of both Vietnam and Ukraine because culture and arts are boundless. He said he believes cultural diplomacy remains a bridge between the two countries and makes the world a better place.

Ambassador Nguyen Hong Thach, for his part, highly spoke of the paintings, saying they are special gifts from Ukrainian friends and artists for Vietnam on the special occasion.

A painting is worth more than a thousand words, he said, as it will help bring people from the two countries closer to each other and improve their mutual understanding.

He also briefed the guests about what the two nations have achieved together over the last three decades and later honoured the painters who had sent their works to the exhibition.

The event will run through February 27 and be held in other major cities in Ukraine throughout 2022./.

Thailand to soon launch travel bubble with India

Thailand will soon launch a travel bubble with India, aiming to attract high-value young Indian visitors who can make a significant contribution to the recovery of its tourism-dependent economy.

The country’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on February 11 approved a proposal on the Thai-Indian Air Travel Bubble (ATB), in which extra convenience will be offered to air passengers travelling between the two countries, despite some remaining COVID-19 restrictions, said CCSA spokesman Taweesilp Visanuyothin.

Airlines and ticket agents together with COVID-19 control authorities will play a key role in this bilateral tourism promotion campaign, he said.

About 1.9 million Indian tourists came to Thailand in 2019, a 25 percent increase from the previous year, according to figures from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

They each spent seven days and 44,700 THB (1,400 USD) in Thailand on average, he said.

In 2019, this generated about 80 billion THB for Thailand’s tourism income, a 20-percent rise from the previous year when India had already become Thailand’s third-largest tourism market, with over 300 flights from India to Thailand, the spokesman added.

Indian visitors represent Thailand’s hope for the recovery of tourism, said Somsong Sachaphimukh, vice president of both the Tourism Council of Thailand and the Indian-Thai Chamber of Commerce.

The ministry previously forecast 20 percent growth in number of Indian visitors to Thailand by 2030, while the World Bank projected that 83 million Indian tourists would be travelling overseas by that same year, up from 24 million in 2017, Somsong said./.

Strong cold remains in northern region

A new cold spell is approaching Vietnam and forecast to hit the north from early morning of February 13, keeping the region in bone-chilling cold for the next few days.

After landing in some northern mountainous areas on early February 13, the spell will spread to other places in the north and then some areas of the central region, said the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

On February 13, the northern region will experience the lowest temperatures of 11 – 14 degrees Celsius, even 8 – 11 degrees or lower in mountainous areas where rains with snow may appear.

In the central region, the mercury will also drop to 14 – 17 degrees in the areas from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue provinces.

Due to impact of the cold spell and high-altitude wind convergence, the centre predicted downpours of 30 – 50mm, even over 70mm, across the northern region. The provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue are likely to record heavy showers, lightning, and hail./.
