 The Vietnam News Agency (VNA), Nhan dan (People) Newspaper and the People’s Committee of the northern port city of Hai Phong on August 12 signed communication cooperation programmes for 2022-2025.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Hai Phong, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Do Manh Hien stressed that the programmes demonstrate the close cooperation between the city and VNA and Nhan dan, and suggested the press agencies continue to publish articles about the locality.

Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Tung briefed the participants on Hai Phong’s outstanding socio-economic achievements, with its gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in the first half of this year up 11% year-on-year, and budget collection exceeding 62 trillion VND (2.64 billion USD).

He attributed the achievements to significant contributions made by press agencies, especially VNA, that have played a role in local construction and development.

In her remarks, VNA General Director Vu Viet Trang congratulated Hai Phong on its achievements, and thanked local leaders for their support to VNA reporters, especially its correspondents in Hai Phong.

The contents of cooperation should be concretised into annual working programmes, she suggested, adding that VNA departments and relevant departments and agencies of Hai Phong should enhance exchanges and cooperate closely to optimise the agreement.

Trang also noted her belief that the agreement will contribute to realising the city’s development plans in the time ahead, while helping VNA fulfill its information and communication tasks.

Under the agreement, VNA will popularise new viewpoints, guidelines, policies and regulations of the Government and the State towards Hai Phong, along with achievements recorded by the local Party Organisation, administration and people.

 National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue attended a conference that sought experts’ opinions on the draft Law on Medical Examination and Treatment (amended) in Hanoi on August 12.

The draft law was tabled for discussion at the third session of the legislature, and is expected to be approved in the next sitting, Hue said, stressing its significance to not only the medical sector but also socio-economic development.

The top legislator noted contents that need to be adjusted in the document, regarding the granting of practice permits, medical checkups and treatment for foreigners, foreign medical experts, self-financing mechanism at medical facilities, resources for health care, and public-private partnership in this regard.

Representatives from the Ministry of Health, universities and hospitals and experts raised their opinions on financing in public hospitals, medical costs and public-private cooperation in the sector, among others.

They said the state budget should make the lion share in infrastructure investment at public medical facilities.

Vietnam counts 1,420 hospitals, of which 1,189 are public hospitals that have played a key role in providing medical services./.

 Thailand’s National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) reckoned that the Thai economy can be affected by three scenarios taking into account the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and other geopolitical conflicts.

NESDC Deputy Secretary General Wichayayuth Boonchit said the first and most probable scenario is that if the Russia-Ukraine war continues but the global oil supply is not affected by sanctions against Russia, Thailand’s economy should expand between 2.5 and 3.5% this year.

In the second but less probable scenario, he said the Thai economy will grow less than expected in 2022-2023 if more sanctions are slapped on Russia. This will result in a surge in the global price of oil and other products.

The third and worst scenario is that if a conflict is sparked between the US and China. Wichayayuth said this conflict will spark a global economic recession depending on the intensity of this and other geopolitical conflicts.

Meanwhile, the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking predicted that the Thai economy will grow by 2.75 – 3.5% this year on the back of rising exports, tourist arrivals and Government support./.

 The Vietnamese Consulate General in Cambodia’s Preah Sihanouk province, the Executive Board of the provincial Khmer-Vietnam Association and philanthropists presented gifts to families of Vietnamese origin and Cambodians living in need on the occasion of the Buddhist Vu Lan festival 2022.

They handed over more than 180 gifts, each worth 20 USD, to support those hit by COVID-19, Vietnamese war veterans and invalids in Sihanoukville city.

Vice Chairman of Ward 3, Sihanoukville city Yuok Sopheak pledged to continue offering all possible support to those of Vietnamese origin in the locality, thus contributing to the traditional friendship between the two countries.

Vietnamese Consul General in Preah Sihanouk Vu Ngoc Ly also lauded the association, philanthropists and Vietnamese workers in the province for their contributions to the solidarity and friendship between those of Vietnamese origin and the host community./.
