Football tournament marks Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year

The Vietnamese Embassy in Laos, and the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports and the Association of Private Education on August 19 co-organised a friendship football tournament to welcome the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022.

The six participating teams were divided into three pairs that received enthusiastic cheers of hundreds of spectators.

Lao Minister of Education and Sports Phouth Simmalavong viewed the tournament as a meaningful event to mark the 60th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties and 45 years of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung lauded pragmatic activities held by the Lao side to celebrate the Solidarity and Friendship Year, and noted his hope that the event will contribute to enhancing the relationship between the two countries.

Within the framework of the tournament, there were art performances featuring the land and people of Vietnam and Laos, as well as their great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation./.

President attends ceremony marking Cam Doi victory in Quang Nam province

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of Cam Doi victory (August 19, 1972-2022) in Que Son district, the central province of Quang Nam on August 19.

The Cam Doi campaign lasted for 26 days and nights, from July 23 to August 19, 1972 to liberate Que Son, contributing to the liberation of Quang Nam province and the southern region, and national reunification.

Over the past years, the Que Son Party organisation has led local residents to reap marked achievements, with per capita income standing at about 40 million VND (1,709 USD) and six out of 11 communes recognised as new-style rural areas.

Earlier the same day, President Phuc and his entourage paid tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh and martyrs at a monument in Que Son district.

The locality counted a total of 14,307 martyrs during the wars against US and French forces./.

Verisk Welcomes Olumide Soroye to Its Board of Directors

Prior to that, he was a partner with McKinsey & Company where he drove growth & innovation strategies for several world-class technology companies.

He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School, J.D. from Loyola Law School, and a bachelor’s degree in metallurgical & materials engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria.
