Liechtenstein wishes to promote cooperation with the Asia-Pacific region, especially Vietnam, which is a destination for many foreign businesses and investors, to promote the potential and strengths of each country, Hereditary Prince Alois of the Principality of Liechtenstein told Vietnamese Ambassador Phung The Long.

In a September 15 meeting with the Vietnamese diplomat, who presented a letter of credentials to him, Prince Alois said the Liechtenstein government will encourage its businesses to actively seek investment cooperation opportunities in Vietnam, he stated.

He spoke highly of Vietnam’s success in preventing and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as in post-pandemic economic recovery.

For his part, Long, Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein respectfully conveyed the regards of the Vietnamese Party and State leaders to Prince Hans-Adam II and Hereditary Prince Alois, and expressed his wish to welcome the Princes in Vietnam at an appropriate time.

He promised to make every effort to further promote the relations between Vietnam and Liechtenstein, both bilaterally and multilaterally, including enhancing the exchange of delegations at all levels and creating favourable conditions for businesses to explore each other’s markets and promote trade-investment bond between the two sides.

On the occasion, the Vietnamese diplomat paid a courtesy visit to Liechtenstein’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sports Dominique Haster, and worked with leaders of agencies in charge of economic, investment and development cooperation of Liechtenstein to discuss measures to further promote bilateral cooperation in the time to come.

Liechtenstein is one of the four smallest countries in Europe with an area of 160km2 and a population of 39,055 but the third highest GDP in the world.

Vietnam established diplomatic ties with Liechtenstein in 2008./.

Seven people have died and five others injured after a landslide at an illegal gold mine buried an estimated 20 people, officials said on September 17.

The victims were mining gold on a bare hillside when the landslide triggered by heavy rain struck the area on the west of Borneo island, in West Kalimantan province.

Local police said they had managed to identify four of the recovered bodies and the search for other victims continues with help from local people and the victims’ families.

Unlicensed mines are common across the mineral-rich Southeast Asian archipelago where abandoned sites attract locals who scrounge for leftover gold ore without using proper safety equipment.

Mining accidents occur frequently in Indonesia due to landslides, especially during the monsoon./.

Vietnam reported 2,479 new COVID-19 infections on September 16, according to the Ministry of Health.

The new infections lifted the country’s total caseload since the pandemic broke out to 11,456,558.

On the same day, 69,654 patients were declared to be free from the disease, raising the total number of recoveries to 10,578,390. Meanwhile, there are 153 patients needing breathing support.

Meanwhile, the death toll increased to 43,138, as one fatality was logged on September 17.

More than 259.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered so far./.

Vietnam is an important and reliable partner and Armenia always attaches importance to expanding cooperation with the country, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan told Vietnamese Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi on September 16.

Highlighting the good traditional friendship inherited from the Soviet era, the President expressed his strong impression of Vietnam’s miraculous economic development after more than 35 years of Doi Moi (Renewal) process as well as appreciated the role and prestige of Vietnam in the international arena.

The Armenian leader believed that the ambassador will effectively promote the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

As Ambassador to Russia and Armenia, Khoi briefed his host on some achievements Vietnam has made in recent years, especially in economy, trade, investment and tourism.

After presenting his credentials to the President, the Vietnamese diplomat had working sessions with Armenian Economic Minister Vahan Kerobyan and National Assembly Vice President Hakob Arshakyan. The two sides discussed issues of mutual concern and agreed to strengthen economic-trade-investment cooperation to match the good traditional relationship between the two countries.

Earlier, on September 15, the ambassador met with Mnatsakan Sararyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, to talk about measures to enhance relations and jointly carry out external relations between the two sides./.

Cambodia, the ASEAN Chair in 2022, applauded important discussions related to economic cooperation and development orientations among CLMV countries at the 14th Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam Economic Ministers’ Meeting (CLMV-EMM 14) in Cambodia, including the approval of the CLMV Action Plan for the 2023-2024 period.

Talking to a Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Phnom Penh on September 17, Cambodian Ministry of Commerce’s Undersecretary of State and Spokesman Penn Sovicheat highlighted discussions to seek solutions to bring the economies of the countries to the same level of other ASEAN member nations.

According to Sovicheat, trade between the group and the world in 2021 reached nearly 750 billion USD, up 20% year-on-year and equivalent to 22.4% of the total trade value between ASEAN and the world, he said, noting that Vietnam is the biggest investment recipient, with 15.6 billion USD.

He said the CLMV ministers agreed to implement the CLMV Action Plan for the 2023-2024 period with six identified areas, including trade and investment cooperation, digital economy promotion, implementation of regional commitments and post-COVID-19 crisis recovery plan, the action plan for implementing the CLMV Development Framework, human resources development, and solutions and cooperation programmes to help realise the CLMV vision in 2030, which aims to turn the four into upper-middle income countries.

The CLMV-EMM 14, chaired by Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, took place in the framework of the 54th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting (AEM-54) in Cambodia’s Siem Reap province from  September 11-18, 2022.

Initiated by Vietnam in 2010, CLMV-EMM mechanism aims to further strengthen economic and trade relations among CLMV countries; coordinate more closely in activities of sub-regional, regional and international forums; narrow the development gap between the four countries and other ASEAN member nations; and speed up the implementation of agreements reached at CLMV summits
