Visit Vietnam Year – Dien Bien 2024 promises endless experiences

Hanoi: In association with the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7, 1954 - 2024), Visit Vietnam Year - Dien Bien 2024 is expected to bring endless experiences to tourists, heard a press conference in Hanoi on February 21. There will be 169 programmes and events throughout the year, comprising 13 national ones to be held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and other agencies, 28 by host Dien Bien province, and 128 by 33 other provinces and centrally-run cities, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy said. Organisers believed that Visit Vietnam Year - Dien Bien 2024 will help promote tourism values and potential of Dien Bien province, the northwestern region and Vietnam at large, thus helping to turn tourism into a spearhead economic sector, she noted. Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bien province Vu A Bang said the locality expects to welcome 1.3 million tourists this year, and earn some 2.2 trillion VND (89.66 million USD) from tourism. In 2023, Dien Bien served a record number of more than 1 million visitors, up nearly 25% year-on-year, surpassing the yearly plan by 7%, with 7,500 international holidaymakers, according to the official. A highlight of Visit Vietnam Year - Dien Bien 2024 is the Ban Flower Festival, set to open on March 14 in coincidence with the opening ceremony of the year. There will be also a special art programme and a high-altitude fireworks display on May 6 evening and a ceremony to mark the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory on May 7./. Vietnam seeks stronger cooperation with French city in different fields

Paris: Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang visited Grenoble city from February 17-20 as part of activities to enhance cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and French localities. At a meeting with Mayor of Grenoble Eric Piolle, Thang appreciated the sentiments and whole-hearted support from the local authorities to the Vietnamese community and students there. The ambassador highlighted Grenoble's cooperation with Vietnam, especially in higher education, scientific-technological research and high-tech, expressing his hope for stronger collaboration in the areas. For his part, Piolle noted his readiness for cooperation in the areas of Vietnam's interests and Grenoble's strengths, and held that apart from the above-said fields, the two sides should take new steps in economic and trade ties, and pay more attention to cultural collaboration. Within the framework of the trip, Thang had working sessions with representatives of investment and trade agencies in the Grenoble Alpes region, and visit ed some research and training facilities in Grenoble. At the meetings, the diplomat affirmed that Vietnam is a developing country with many needs in infrastructure, industry, energy, microelectronics and healthcare, and expressed his hope to develop partnerships with Grenoble in these spheres. NA Standing Committee to convene 30th session on Feb. 22

Hanoi: The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee will convene its 30th session on February 22, the NA Office has announced. NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue will attend, deliver his opening remarks at the event, and chair the session with his deputies by turns. The session will focus on giving opinions on the adjustments of the revised Law on Archives, and the bill on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on the Guard Force. Besides a report on the people's aspirations in January 2024, the committee will also consider the Supreme People's Procuracy's proposal on assigning an additional number of procurators, and summarise the 15th NA's 5th extraordinary session./.
