‘Anutin’ praises village headmen and sub-district heads who are the unsung heroes.

'Anutin' praises village headmen and sub-district heads who 'do the unseen work', sacrificing themselves to relieve suffering and promote happiness in close contact with the people, emphasizing the hope that everyone will have better welfare, announcing new regulations for the cremation welfare scheme to increase coverage of benefits for cremation. Ms. Traisuree Traisaranakul, Secretary to the Minister of Interior and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior, said that August 10 of every year is the Day of Kamnan and Village Headmen, and the year 2024 will be the 132nd anniversary of the birth of Kamnan and Village Headmen in Thailand. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has given great importance to the role of Kamnan and Village Headmen as a mechanism of administration, taking care of, alleviating suffering, and promoting the happiness of the lives of the people who are closest to them. Today (10 Aug 67) at 09.00, Mr. Anutin, along with executives from the Ministry of Interior, traveled to preside over the annual Kamnan and Village Headman Day 2024 in Buriram Province at the plaza in front of the King Rama V Monument, Buriram Provincial Government Center, and presided over the ceremony to present royal medals and awards to outstanding Kamnan and Village Headmen. Mr. Anutin said that village headmen and kamnans are very important to the success of government policies and the Ministry of Interior. They are important in helping and solving the problems of the people. They do many things that no one sees but have created direct benefits for the people, from the household level to the national level, such as drug suppression and social order. When working, when there are problems, one may be criticized. Few people will receive awards or praise. But I ask that everyone have the right attitude, and the encouragement to work, 'gilding the Buddha statue behind the scenes,' which is the way of His Majesty the King. When gilding the Buddha statue behind the scenes, the gold or good deeds do not disappear anywhere, whether anyone sees it or not. It is still there, an encouragement, a pride that we can see for ourselves. 'On behalf of the Ministry of Interior, I hope that our brothers and sisters, kamnans and village headmen, will receive good welfare, which is an encouragement for them to perform their duties with sacrifice without a day off. We have amended the regulations of the Department of Provincial Administration on the Cremation Welfare of Kamnans, Village Headmen, Subdistrict Doctors, Kamnan Sergeants, and Village Headmen Assistants (No. 4) B.E. 2567 to provide welfare to all our brothers and sisters, kamnans and village headmen,' said Mr. Anutin. Ms. Traisulee added that the Department of Provincial Administration Regulations on Cremation Welfare for Kamnans and Village Headmen (No. 4) B.E. 2567, which have been revised, still maintain the objectives of the regulations, which are to allow members of the Cremation Welfare ... The main points of the improvement are as follows: the emergence of the status of a member of the ?.?.?. which will occur immediately on the day that the kamnan, village headman, sub-district doctor, kamnan sergeant, assistant village headman, and legal spouse submit an application in person at the district office and follow the specified application process, along with paying the membership fee of 100 baht and advance assistance of 400 baht per person, compared to the previous regulation that stated that the status of a member of the ?.?.?. would occur when the ?.?.?. committee resolved to accept the application for membership. This improvement will allow the kamnan and village headmen to receive protection and rights faster than in the past. As for the collection of assistance money from members, it remains the same at 2 baht per body. There are also improvements to the time frame for paying benefits to heirs when a C.G.N. member dies, to be clearer. The new regulations stipulate that C.G.N. pays benefits to the specified heirs within 3 days of receiving a full request for benefits and receiving a death notification from the province or district, and that the second payment is to be made within 60 days of the first payment. According to the Department of Provincial Administration, as of the end of July 2024, the J.K.N. has 23,688 members nationwide, consisting of 1,169 kamnans, 12,533 village headmen, 738 sub-district doctors, 1,165 kamnan sergeants, 4,744 assistant village headmen, and 3,339 spouses.
