Hanoi: In Bau Truc village, located in the Ninh Phuoc commune of Khanh Hoa, the ancient art of pottery is thriving amidst its deep-rooted cultural traditions. This village is recognized not just as a craft center, but as a significant hub of cultural heritage where Cham women continue to preserve a unique handmade pottery technique that has been passed down through generations.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the artisans of Bau Truc village employ age-old methods, eschewing modern tools like the turntable or industrial kilns. Instead, they rely on their skilled hands and traditional materials such as straw and firewood to forge pottery that embodies the essence of earth and fire, along with the spirit of Cham culture. In recognition of its cultural significance, UNESCO added the art of Bau Truc pottery to the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding in 2022.
