Ho chi minh city: A working delegation from the Vietnam Border Guard High Command conducted an inspection of efforts to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing in Ho Chi Minh City from February 26 to March 1. During the visit, the team examined the implementation of directives, resolutions, plans, and guidance issued by higher authorities on strengthening the fight against IUU fishing. Inspections were carried out at the municipal Border Guard Command and its affiliated border guard stations and checkpoints.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the inspection aimed to assess the effectiveness of current strategies and ensure that all measures align with national and international standards in combating IUU fishing. The delegation's visit underscores the importance of strict enforcement and compliance to curb activities that threaten marine ecosystems and undermine legal fishing operations.
The Vietnam Border Guard High Command's efforts are part of a broader initiative to enhance the country's commitment to sustainable fishing practices. The findings from the inspection will be used to refine existing strategies and develop new ones, ensuring that Vietnam continues to demonstrate leadership in addressing IUU fishing issues.
