Hanoi: The southernmost province of Ca Mau has initiated a peak campaign targeting illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. This effort involves mobilizing the entire political system to implement eight groups of tasks and solutions aimed at addressing persistent issues and aiding in the removal of the European Commission's (EC) "yellow card" warning on Vietnamese seafood exports. Ca Mau boasts 5,156 registered fishing vessels, collectively equipped with engines exceeding 801,000kW in capacity. These vessels are fitted with vessel monitoring system (VMS) equipment, ensuring stable connections with the national monitoring system.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the campaign seeks to rectify long-standing shortcomings in the fishing industry. The comprehensive strategy involves collaboration across various sectors to ensure compliance with international fishing regulations and improve the sustainability of the local fishing industry. The initiative is part of a broader national effort to enhance the reputation of Vietnamese seafood on the global market and secure future export opportunities.
