Ca mau: The southernmost province of Ca Mau, home to a major fishing ground, a long coastline, and more than 5,100 fishing vessels, has made combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing a top political task. The province is focusing on completing the installation of vessel monitoring systems (VMS) on all vessels subject to the requirement and digitalising the management of its entire fleet.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the initiative aims to enhance the monitoring and regulation of fishing activities in the region. By ensuring that all vessels have VMS installed, authorities hope to improve compliance with fishing regulations and reduce incidents of IUU fishing. This move is part of a broader effort to protect marine resources and promote sustainable fishing practices within the province.
The digitalisation of the fleet's management is expected to streamline operations and provide real-time data on fishing activities, which will assist in enforcing regulations more effectively. The province's commitment to these measures underscores its dedication to sustainable fisheries management and the preservation of its vital marine resources.
