Can Tho City Launches Month-Long Crackdown on IUU Fishing

Hanoi: The Border Guard Command of Can Tho city initiated a month-long campaign on July 21 to enhance patrols and inspections targeting illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. This initiative is part of Vietnam's broader efforts to promote sustainable fisheries and address the European Commission's "yellow card" warning concerning seafood exports. The campaign is scheduled to run from July 21 to August 20 and was officially launched at the Tran De Border Guard Control Station under the Trung Binh Border Guard Post.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the campaign underscores the commitment of local authorities to combat IUU fishing and improve the sustainability of the fishing industry. By intensifying patrols and inspections, Can Tho city aims to ensure compliance with fishing regulations and contribute to the removal of the European Commission's warning, which has impacted Vietnam's seafood export market.
