Hanoi: Vice Chairwoman of the Can Tho municipal People's Committee Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep held a working session with Director of the Bureau of Roads and Sewerage of Japan's Fukuoka city Fukuyama Takeshi on June 2 to review a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-funded technical cooperation project on drainage management for climate resilience. The two sides discussed specific plans to expand economic cooperation and cultural exchanges, and share expertise on sustainable urban infrastructure management.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the meeting emphasized the need to accelerate the project, aiming to achieve substantial results within the next 18 months. The project focuses on enhancing drainage systems to better cope with the impacts of climate change, an increasingly urgent issue for Can Tho. Both parties are committed to fostering stronger ties and knowledge exchange to ensure the project's success.
Efforts to expand economic cooperation and cultural exchanges between Can Tho and Fukuoka were also highlighted during the session. The collaboration is expected to lead to improvements in urban infrastructure management, benefiting both cities. The project is part of a broader initiative to promote sustainable urban development and resilience against climate-related challenges.
