Catching illegal rosewood logging in Khao Yai National Park

Prachin Buri, Khao Yai National Park arrested a rosewood logger with a gun and knife. A search found drug paraphernalia. The suspect was taken to Prachantakham Police Station in Prachin Buri Province for legal proceedings.

Mr. Chaiya Huaihongthong, Chief of Khao Yai National Park, said that Khao Yai National Park officials were patrolling to prevent and suppress illegal forestry activities until they found people illegally cutting rosewood in the Khao Suea Na area, Bu Fai Subdistrict, Prachantakham District, Prachin Buri Province. They set up an ambush to monitor the situation and arrested one of the offenders.

The search found the following evidence:

2 pieces of rosewood, total volume 0.053 cubic meters

1 cap gun (no registration number)

1 pointed knife

Two axes

1 telephone

Drug paraphernalia, Category 1: Methamphetamine (ya ba)

The team of officers then recorded the arrest at Khao Yai National Park Unit 10 (Prachantakham) and took the suspect, the evidence, and the arrest record to the investigati
on officer at Prachantakham Police Station, Prachantakham District, Prachin Buri Province to inform them of the charges according to their duties and legal procedures.

Mr. Chaiyar said that he has raised the level of quality patrols to prevent and suppress wrongdoing in Khao Yai National Park. He found that there were groups of people who had been sneaking into Khao Yai National Park to cut valuable trees from time to time. When wrongdoing is found, they will be arrested and prosecuted decisively in every case according to the order of Mr. Atthaphon Charoenchansa, Director-General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation.
