China-Vietnam Freight Train Volume Hits Record

Guangxi: Cross-border freight trains departing from China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to Vietnam carried a record of 37,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2025, surging 86% from a year earlier. Cargo on this route currently accounts for 73% of the total volume exported to Vietnam by rail and 86% of the container volume shipped to the country by this means of transport, up 5 percentage points and 2 percentage points from 2024, respectively, statistics show.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the significant increase in freight train volume is indicative of growing trade relations between China and Vietnam. The data highlights a robust demand for efficient and reliable rail transport between the two countries, which is crucial for facilitating trade and economic growth. The increase in container volume reflects a broader trend of reliance on rail transport as a preferred means of moving goods across borders in the region.
