Vinh long: The “Water Access Promotes Happy Schools (WAHASO)” programme, sponsored by ActionAid Vietnam and Lindstrom Group (Europe) since 2025, has provided significant support to local residents, particularly children, in climate change-affected areas of the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long. The programme aims to improve access to clean, sanitary water and increase awareness of water conservation in the wake of rising salinisation and pollution challenges.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the programme, which will run until 2027, has a total funding of 90,000 EUR (104,820 USD) and is being implemented in local schools in areas heavily impacted by climate change and salinisation. As part of its initiatives, the programme has installed solar-powered RO water filtration systems at three schools, ensuring a consistent supply of clean water. Additionally, 800 thermos bottles have been donated to students to encourage the use of clean water.
The programme also focuses on education and awareness. It has conducted one Training of Trainers (ToT) course, along with 35 expanded training sessions for students, addressing waterborne diseases and water management practices. These efforts aim to equip the local community with the knowledge and tools necessary to manage water resources effectively amidst the ongoing environmental challenges.
