Cluster Bomb Safely Detonated in Phu Tho Province

Phu tho: Military forces in the northern province of Phu Tho successfully detonated a CBU-87 cluster bomb left over from the war, which was previously discovered in Tu Vu commune, near the Da River.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the provincial Military Command reported that the bomb measured about 1.8 metres in length and 0.4 metres in diameter. It was identified as an unexploded American-made CBU-87 cluster munition dropped during the war.

Technical documents note that such ‘mother’ bombs are designed with auxiliary explosions, capable of causing severe casualties if detonated. The successful detonation of the bomb ensured the safety of residents in the area, preventing potential harm from the dangerous remnants of past conflicts.
