Credit Growth in Vietnam Anticipated to Reach 16% by 2025

HANOI: Credit growth throughout Vietnam’s banking system is anticipated to reach approximately 16% by the year 2025, as forecasted by the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV). The central bank has communicated these projections in a document dispatched to financial institutions, emphasizing the establishment of clear and transparent guidelines for determining credit growth targets for the upcoming year.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the SBV’s allocation of credit quotas will rely on a scoring and ranking system based on performance metrics from 2023. This system is detailed in Circular No. 52 (2018), which has recently been amended to reflect the latest regulatory requirements. The circular serves as a foundational document guiding the credit allocation process and ensuring that banks are assessed on their operational efficiency and adherence to financial regulations.

The SBV’s approach aims to foster a more competitive and efficient banking environment by incentivizing institutions to optimize their operations and improve their financial health. By tying credit growth targets to performance-based assessments, the central bank seeks to maintain stability in the banking sector while promoting sustainable economic growth.

This strategic move comes as Vietnam continues to navigate the complexities of its rapidly evolving economy, balancing the need for growth with the imperative of financial stability. The SBV’s projections and regulatory framework are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the country’s financial landscape in the coming years.
