Credit Growth in Vietnam’s Banking System Projected to Reach 16% by 2025

HANOI: Credit growth across Vietnam’s banking system is projected to reach approximately 16% in 2025, as reported by the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV). The central bank has communicated this forecast in a document to financial institutions, specifying the principles for establishing credit growth targets for the upcoming year.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the allocation of credit quotas will be determined through a scoring and ranking system based on the performance of 2023. This system is part of the guidelines outlined in Circular No. 52 (2018), which was amended to ensure transparency in the process. The circular provides a framework that financial institutions must adhere to when setting their credit growth objectives.

The SBV’s approach aims to foster a more structured and predictable banking environment, thereby supporting economic stability and growth. By basing credit allocation on past performance, the central bank seeks to encourage financial institutions to maintain sound lending practices and enhance their operational efficiency. The projected credit growth is seen as a strategic move to bolster Vietnam’s economic resilience amid global uncertainties.
